Alternator overcharging

I've been having flickering lights on my 91 wagon. I changed the alternator about 6 months ago, and this didn't start up until a month ago. I checked all the grounds and cleaned them up. I connected a meter and it would fluctuate, it would never read the same, it would spike up to 15.4 volts and drop as low as 14.3 volts. So I have a few questions, is it bad to be driving like this till I get it fixed? Should I replace the entire alternator? Should I run a seperate ground to the alternator from the battery? Or I've heard it could be a bad voltage regulator? And if so is this an easy fix? Please any help is welcomed, thx.
