no elc.pwr problem on my mazda 323

so on my 88' 323 wagon tonight the car started, drove for 10 minutes then died. no battery light came on but all the signs of a bad alternator.

boosted the car, worked great, took cables off and one by one everything stopped working, wipers, then radio, so on and so on and then the car turned off.

anyone wanna confirm my suspicions?

  • Why don't you start the car and see what the voltage is at the battery? It should be 13-14ish volts while running. If its lower than that it isn't charging correctly and is most likely your alternator.

don't have a voltmeter unfortunately... stupid me.
  • $5 at harbor freight for a tester, but most likely alternator
  • Yeah, they are dirt cheap. You could just go to radioshack and get a multimeter for $15-$30 that way you would have a more versatile tool. I don't use mine much, but it's very useful when I need it.

    fixed.

changed alternator outside while raining/snowing... i friggin HATE not having access to a garage/shop anymore.
  • Yeah, no shop would suck. At least you have a car again. 8)
