New tires RT4WD

This is a basic question. My 91 RT4WD needs new rear tires (dry rot). The fronts look fairly new. I know AWD systems in general require new tires all around even if only one tire is bad. Will I need to replace all four on my Civic? I was considering having the new tires mounted on the front and to move the used but good tires to the back.... so the diff would see that the front tires are moving slower than the rear. I want to avoid wearing out the center diff.

    As long as the tread is similar in both design and tread depth, you should be ok. By tread depth, +/- 2/32 should be fine.

    Thanks nobizero. I went ahead and bought 4 new tires. I figured it was best not to chance ruining the center diff and what not.
