wiper length question

When I got the car it had 2 18s on, I put 19s on later. The little electronic reference at Advance said one 20, one 19, and a 16 on the rear for civic (didn't list for wagon specifically). What's the real deal? With the 19 on the right side the wiper hits the windshield trim before it parks level. Normal?

i have 2 19's on mine.... as for the back i dont know.
  • I prefer 18 on the front and 16 on the back.

I use regular blades on the front and a reflex blade on the back to get extra "squeegee" effect.

"...revolutionary flex design leads to continuous even pressure of the blade on to your windshield leading to a superior wipe in all weather conditions. Hingeless design virtually eliminates snow and ice build-up."

i've got ones for a Mazda3 5-door they are Bosch Icon. the smaller one is 18" and the bigger one is 21" they work amazing, i love these wipers. the only thing bad is that if i have the wipers at the "high" setting the bigger wiper taps the A pillar slightly, not a lot but enough to annoy. other then that though, its great.

I put those icons on my lex and I love em. I will eventually go with them on my EE.

Yea I think the auto stores have the wrong measurements. my blades hit the sides too. I thought my wiper motor was off alignment but when I swapped out my fathers wipers the same thing started happening to him. I guess I'll go an inch shorter when its time to replace
  • awesome. I need to buy new wipers and I normally just get whatever but this time I'll try these out. Will 19s hit the edge of the windshield or not? I prefer that they don't but like as much wiping as I can get. I could go measure mine, but I'm lazy.......

Yes, the 19 hits. As I was reinstalling the arms after paint, I just changed the angle a little.

The original question remains: preferences aside, what length(s) were originally used?
  • On hondaautomotiveparts.com it lists a 475mm "rubber" and 500mm. Those are the replacement blade thingers. 475=18.7 inches and 500=19.68 inches. It doesn't list a length for the rear wiper. This is all for a 91 wagon rt4wd. It says the same on hondapartsdeals.com.

My driver side wiper blade quit working in the middle of a terrible rainstorm. I changed the passenger side blade over to one 20" blade, adjusted it to an even arc across the whole windshield, and used it that way for awhile before I fixed it to two blades again. It was a kinda-cool custom look! 8)
  • Thats exactly what a friend of mine does in his crx race car. On a similiar note, I was driving the other night without wipers just to see how bad it was with rain-x. As long as I was going 40mph+ it wasn't bad. It was harder to see when cars came the other direction though.
