Installed a Si Trans.

I recently had completed putting a Si transmission into my wagon. Some of you might ask why? Other may ask for the results.Anyways here is the info:
89 Si Transmission(new seals and all new bearings)
89 Si Clutch Kit(cd,pp,to-brg&pilot brg)
89 Si Flywheel(reman)
The trans needs to be specific to your year mine was a 89'Civic Wagon, tried using a 90'Si Clutch Kit and Flywheel it didnt work. I believe the break is 88/89same and 90/91same.
Results:
Not much,i expected some what of a difference but seem to see it only in the 5th gear,oh well i need my trans rebuilt anyways and a new clutch. The only thing i seem to have lost was the ability to gain a little bit of power downshifting, the si trans doesnt seem to pick-up on the downshift in the lower gears.
So i thought i would post this for those who might ask,and for those of you who already know if you can add to this great if not enough said.

  • Maybe your transmission isn't a 89. The splines are different for 88 and 89-91 and the clutch disc diameters change in 88,89, and 90-91. So 89-91 are interchangeable.

Your ability to downshift and gain power might seem less because you no longer need to downshift being as your engine is already at higher revolutions when traveling at the same speed as previous. Are you certain that you have a SI transmission with a 4.25 final drive ratio?

dont forget to break in that clutch
  • dont forget to break in that clutch

Is that actually necessary? I never broke in the clutch on my integra (oem replacement) and I never resurfaced my flywheel in that car or on my civic, but I never had any problems whatsoever. I'm sure it can't hurt, especially on higher hp cars.
  • Break in the clutch? I thought just taking it easy the first few hundred miles was all you had to do?
  • Taking it easy is pretty much what you're supposed to do. I had no mercy on any of my cars (it was back when I drove like a madman) and they held fine.
  • Thanks for all the helpfull info.
