Un-named Wagon project

Background:
This is going to be the start of an interesting journey. I'm 22, from Sac, C.A. Little car experience here and there, change plugs, bakes etc... I am going to do this mostly by YouTube and the service manual. Myself, along with all of my friends are all computer nerds. so I (sadly) know the most about working on cars.

The Goals:
I am looking to make this car into a utilitarian car for myself. I like to do outdoor sports and what not. hiking, camping, snowboarding(only light snow), biking, and so on. I also ride motorcycles, so I would like to somehow fit a tow-hitch in here... eventually. a bike or 2, no more than 1000lbs tops.

I know I'm asking a lot from this car.

The Car:
1991 Civic hatchback, 2wd, 187K. stock. minor dings here and there, no major dents or body damage. minor tears in the driver seat.

I will defiantly add more pictures later tonight.

Took the seats, carpeting and paneling out last night. Going to paint the lower panels a dark blue. Any suggestions on a good paint? or just plastic spray paint?

It looks so much nicer with the carpets cleaned and vacuumed.

And I passed smog this morning.

  • good start :) if you are gonna paint the interior id say just use the plastic spry it work real good my buddy did it to his RSX and it looks good just make sure you clean and prep them or the paint will chip off after some time. ima be working on my interior this weekend :/

So i went on a little camping trip to a lake this weekend. while i was driving out there, I began to notice a problem when i stoped for gas and tried to start my car again. It really didn't want to turn over. Then when i did it was a very low rpm and dark black smoke came pouring out of the exhaust. I was talking to my friend about it and he things it's a bad headgasket. Which would also explain my coolant issue, my coolant is seeming dissapearing. there a little leak after a long drive, but nothing major, and i still have to put 3 or so gallons of water in it a week. anyone have any input?

Picks from her at the lake. Got sorta dirty, but didn't get stuck.

So while I getting to the head-gasket replacement, I pulled the Spark plugs and gave them a look. #2 and 4, where soaked in oil, This should be fixed when i replace all the gaskets right? with something like--> http://www.amazon.com/Fel-Pro-Hs9915Pt1-Head-Gasket-Set/dp/B000C2EBDI/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1376582764&sr=1-2&keywords=head+gasket

Working hard on cleaning the head. This gasket is just a pain in the ass to get off. I've probably been at it for about 6-7 hours. and still maybe about halfway done

Yeah, the composite head gaskets are a PITA to remove. Just keep after it with a fresh box of single-edge razor blades.

In the mean time, While I take my time cleaning it, I've been looking at other accessories and the like. Does anyone have any specific input on parts and accessories?

Namely Wheels, exhaust, roof racks and a panel mirror? (or golf car mirror)
