Air Conditioning weight.=15.5 lbs(7 kilos)

I pulled ALL of the A/C lines/wires/fans etc. out of my 1991 Wagon, and the total weight of everything was 15.5 lbs. It took about 2 hours total to remove everything, and this was my first time removing an A/C system. This is also the first step towards my wire tuck, of which Ill post about later.

I wanted to make this a seperate post so people could specifically search for this topic.

That doesn't include the condenser, receiver dryer, evaporator, compressor or does it?
  • It includes everything from the engine bay aside from the compressor...I should have specified.

the compressor is 17 lbs including its bracket.
  • I wonder if anyone has a compressor and bracket lying around so we could get an "official" weight, and update the thread title.

    32.5 lbs = 14.5KG

Reasonable weight saving considering you can get another 30KG in sound deadening alone. Put the two together and you've removed a small person from your car.

You did release R12 in atmosphere, didn't ya :?:
Should I call EPA on your a$$ or A/C was empty when you removed it?
  • Sorry for highjacking this post but...

Farfetched, that has got to be the most disturbing avatar I have ever seen.

    Draws attention, doesn't it?
    No it is not me.....

  • The compressor was already removed from the car when I bought it, and the previous owner had made the decision to discharge R12 into the atmosphere, or have it professionally recycled.

The other thing we have yet to consider is the weight of the pieces still under the dash. I'm going to have a look at those this weekend, and see how hard they might or might not be to remove.

ABout 1KG, it's just the evaporator unit inside the big black box. Unless you're removing the entire system including regular 'fresh' air vents and tubes?
