No Start...Need help....=Solved=Ignitor prob. :)

Okay guys, I'm in need of help. I have an 89 RT4wd. Coming back from a trip tonight, roughly drove about 150 miles then stopped to get something to eat.

Got back in the car and started just fine then after about 15-30 seconds while I was sitting in the parking lot at idle it all of a sudden died. I started it up again and it ran for about 3-5 seconds then died again. It will not start up again. I have tried a half a dozen times now still nothing. :(

Could this be the Main Fuel Relay you guys are talking about in the other thread? I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key on. It's currently at the service station at the gas station right now. I have to wait till the morning to talk with the mechanic.

Any ideas? The car was running fine with no problems at all until then.

  • distributor coil, distributor igniter, possibly solder joints on the main relay... I would bet that you burned up the igniter or the coil in your distributor, though. The main relay thing typically develops over time, not all of a sudden. You could try kicking or punching the main relay (I'm serious). When the main relay is on its way out, you can sometimes get them to work that way.

    good luck
  • Thanks, I'll check out that main relay before the mechanic get's his hands on it.

I also read somewhere that the Dist. ignitor was a Honda recall?

    Thanks again. Any other ideas?

this happened to my friends 89 civic once, he was driving it , parked, came back and it wouldnt start. ended up that he needed a new distributor
  • Well it ended up being the Dist. Ignitor. Put a new Dist. cap/Ignitor and rotor on and off I went. :D

Runs like a dream again. 8)

btw, I'll probably be putting this up for sale soon so keep a close watch for it. :)
