same happened to me a year ago, I washed under the hood of my wagon with a pressure sprayer(low pressure of course) and I avoided that side of the wagon and BAM..little while later I got the battery light.

I replaced the alternator 4x and installed a red top optima and a volt meter in the dash and every once so often I get the battery light.
Yet, heres the thing...I will read 13 volts and the battery light comes on. It charges & holds charge...weird. I guess I never found the problem...and don't say its a main relay or ignitor/replaced em with brand new OE

ok so my battery light came on tonight... after weeks of normal driving without any special treatment (batter & alternator are... about 1 year old.) when i am at a stoplight and hit the brakes it goes out. then as soon as i start moving again, it comes back on.

it might be a loose belt, i'll check. i think it might be the alternator again, should be on warranty, i hope i can find the bill.

    keep you posted.

    ugh...
i got the warranty replacement, put it in, boosted it up with my bro's civic for about 5 minutes. turned key, brrrrroooom. ran great, then died half way down the street. One by one the electronics go out, first tach, then radio, dash lights, headlights then car turns off.

    i replaced the battery connectors

    same thing.

    must be battery now right?

That sounds like major wiring and fuse issues to me, things wouldn't just switch off one by one they would wear down first if it was the battery... at least i'd think so.
Check your fuse panels, earthing cables etc for damage, wear or water.

if i boost the car again, the same thing happens. length of lasting is dependant on lengh of charge. still think fuses?

i'm starting to think the main battery ground. i'll probably replace that first tomorrow. to late today, going to sleep.

So you jump start from another car/battery and then you go for a little while and then the car dies? Sounds like alternator again... :?

    yup that's what happens.

took alternator back off, got it tested. PASSED. so it's something else! but that is what's happening.

also changed battery connectors/terminals and sanded down the grounding point on the chassis.

    still nothing.

    HELP! I HAVE NO WHEELS!

Check that the cells in your battery aren't empty and make sure the plates aren't warped.. Although it should still be fine once the car is running if the alternator is working properly..

took battery back for warranty, they tested it, it passed. it MUST be drawing a massive amount of power somewhere or something. the alternator is NOT charging the battery, that is the main issue, everything else is irrelivant.

You probably have a short some where. Is there a hi-power stereo in your wagon?Put in recently?
  • quartersquarters Council Member
nope, same mp3 deck, no amps. been that way for a long time.

solved. the alternator post wire had a bad connector. didn't look bad, but it was the only thing left to change. works now.
