'90 4wd road noise about 45 mph

I have had my shuttle for a few years and it seems to have developed a strange road noise about 45 mph. I suspect the tires are making the noise since they are pretty old but they appear to be smooth on the surface. I hear the sound in the back of the car. At higher speeds, say 70 mph, the sound is not as prominent.

I have searched here but only found suggestions / solutions when the sounds are in the front of the car.

Help!
