Over priced civic wagons......

I understand that anyone can sell there car for whatever price they want. Beetween bisi, mrm3, wagon attack, the nj boys, and many other sick and unique wagons we have managed to drive the price of wagons to just insane points..... even about 6 months ago the prices were OK.... but they are just getting insane. I just find it hard to drop 4-5 grand on an EF..... I mean can anyone chime in and tell me they paid $4500 for there RT that had little to no mods and feel ok about it? maybe its cuz i bought the cleanest stock wagon ive still ever seen in my life in person for about 2 grand and ive bought several other running driving wagons from $300 to $1700....

Agreed matt. There's no way I'm spending that kind of money. Even if I was to sell mine I wouldn't ask a lot. U don't get back what u put in and just cause some have rt doesn't mean ur car is clean and worth 5 grand with 145000 miles

have you seen the ones that have been popping up on seattle c-list?
4500 for just a 2wd with only an ls swap.

Swap a boosted one in tacoma with just a vitara z6 going for 6500.

I have no chance of buying one to use for parts.

I'm curious how many are actually selling at or near those prices. Part of me says- the problem is people are paying those prices. But the truth is I don't know if they actually are.

My first RT I paid $2,500. It had 136k miles and was immaculate. This was in 2004. I doubt I'll ever pay more than that again. There's a handful of cars on this site I would pay more for. But as someone who regularly spends too damn much time looking at cars for sale when I have no intention to buy.... I will always hold out for the right deal. I paid way too much for my current car. But I was desperate. And got very lucky with it's mechanical condition. The body speaks for itself. It was purchased sight unseen btw.

Even if you're desperate for something to drive, buy something else and WAIT. kulturekustomrodz waited like 4+ months and made out with an AWESOME car that he paid an extremely fair price for. He's actually letting me borrow it until the weekend, and can't tell you how much I personally love his car (thank you Nick!). He can tell you what he paid if he wants to. But personally I can tell you it was very much worth the wait!

Being an educated buyer is going to make the difference. Unfortunately, it's a sellers market. Supply and demand will dictate the numbers....

i fully agree about people wanting too much. Then again i've seen some less than stellar wagons go for $3000 or more on this site. I cant even find a third gen RT for a decent price. Hell i paid too much for my current wagon! :-p

I agree that prices are ridiculous, and it's not only wagons. I lik to buy and sell a few cars for side money, but lately there's no margin in it. Cars that used to sell for 400 are now 1000+. I routinely see shells and non-runners around here for 1200.
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
But I'm in no hurry. I currently have 5 1/2 wagons, paid less than 2000 for all of them combined!

I searched and waiting 5+months and had a few other cars on the list. It was rt4wd, porsche 914, subaru brat, z600 and a very few others. ended up getting my rust free rt for an even 1000. best decision ive ever made. well worth the wait

NewB here - been looking a while and haven't found much yet that I've liked. One nice one on eBay, but pricey and automatic. 'Course I guess that's what happens when the newest one is what - 20 years old... :(

I know most members here don't get too lucky with other members selling their wagons, but I scored an RT auto for 800 in decent condition. It needed a battery, tranny cooler lines and an axle for inspection. But like most of you, I've surfed many a craigslist and I would only pay 3-5K maybe for the attack wagon or for one I know was built well by a respected member of the forum.

I consider the $500 I paid for my RT to be too much, especially considering the condition of the body. It's basically a total loss as far as rust is concerned.

It runs and drives though... kinda.

I recently got 3500.00 for one and 5500.00 for another.............I had to drive them to oregon tho

which one sold for $5500 nick? i see the real teal one isnt on CL anymore i take it she went for $3500?

Maybe they are selling for this much.... $5500.... man in a couple years the 88's will be 25 years old and i dont know if $5500 would cover the total cost of shipping one from overseas but it would be a hell of a start.

I see this as supply and demand. All used cars are getting rediculous prices right now, and stock civic wagons are not getting any more plentiful. Just a bad combination for somebody looking to get into the game.

It's all about supply and demand. We are talking about a car that is, in a rust free state, harder to find than a Type R. I looked for 3.5 years for mine and had to pay $3000 plus about $500 to go get it. I'm happy with my decision considering the money it would've cost to get some rust fixed. I wanted something unique that not many people had and there's usually a price to pay for that.

As time goes by prices are going to keep creeping up for clean ones as the rusted and broken ones slowly disappear. I'm not sure what the market is like in the States but up here my friend was unable to find a rust free CRX under $3000.

Scrap is .10 a pound around here. "The $500 cars" had their wheels, catalytic converters, Batteries, ETC sold, and the rest sold for iron.

The RT4wd usually had a hard life. In the North East, Someone spent extra $$$ for the 4WD. They we used in the salt/snow leaving the "summer car" in the garage.

It is not only the wagons that pricey. Any Civic/CRX 88 on up is getting a good buck. I think the prices for the 88 on up RT4WD are about as low as they will get.

My wife lovers her wagon and wants me to find her one thats not destroyed. But the prices for a clean one are too high, even for a 2WD model. Also, for me, finding a good clean Honda usually requires a 1000+ mile road trip.

I am hoping she will like this better instead.

I think once you break your HCW trance you will find there are better cars to be had with better pricing than an EF wagon.
  • lecoqlecoq Wagonist
There's no doubt that there's a lot that can be bought for the same cash as the wagon. It comes down to what you want. If it's an emotional purchase then cost is second. I could've bought an Audi 1.8t A4 for the same price as my wagon but I wouldn't smile as much when I open the garage...or when I need to fix it lol

Maybe there popularity and rarity just is truely ust up there.... is this a modern day muscle car collector car in the works? I think to myself sometime in 50 years will we see super clean low mile type r integras with clean titles number matching selling for 50k 60k hell maybe 100k+?

I LOVE civic wagon i break my neck even for ones ive seen a dozen times before and i will have another one but no way in hell im paying over 2 grand for a clean RT. I would splurge for a high end wagon that was well built knowing in the end i would save money buying it something like vipryans wagon im always whatching and waiting to see him post his car FS but with his kiddo on the way i doubt thats gunna happen.

What he said. This is where it helps if you live in a dry, salt-free state. I won't buy rusty - it's just not worth it to me. So it will probably take longer to find a good one, and it may cost more. It is indeed about supply & demand...

i just purchased my 89 wagon for 300 and 200 tags and it runs great.

I just bought an 88 RT, dirty, but no rust from Cali for $2K. I expected no less. It is after all the ONLY RT4wd I seen for sale within 200 miles of me in the last 2 months.
  • xDreamingxDreaming Band Wagon
Over here in Central-Northern California, I can't even find a basic 2wd wagon for under 2k. and I just saw a couple a few months ago for $1k. I should have snatched up at least one of them.
  • FrankzZHereFrankzZHere Band Wagon
Agreed... I've been on the search for a 89', and the cheapest Wagon I came across was 2400$, stock motor with a 180,000 mi, It had a five speed tranny swap but that was it. Both the wagons my family owns were both under a G.

But I'm keeping my head up and my eyes open.:D

I've contemplated selling mine. but always decide not to just for that fact. they are getting harder to find in decent shape and to make them decent, it would take some coin to bring it up to spec. so no matter what, it's not going to be cheap. and i just happen to love my wagon. if i did decide to sell it, it would be around $6500. do i sound out of my mind? or does it sound reasonable to you guys?

turbo_teg, you should've kept that red one and put in the turbo motor. that would've been an awesome wagon!

I know that guy selling the red rt4wd. Just a kid really but he did fit up an authentic BYS rear spoiler for an eg to his hatch.

I might have a shell over-price listed... But, that's because in my area.. you get low-balled at like at least 50%.. LOL

I Don't expect to get what I asked.
