Heat not hot enough

My heat doesn't get hot enough. It gets fairly warm but not ever so that I would have to turn it down. I've had other EF's that would melt your face off. I have replaced the thermostat, Made sure the valve on the hose by the firewall was fully open and made sure the white lever that controls the door under the dash above the stereo was fully forward. Tonight I flushed the heater core. I still haev the same condition. I'm not sure what I could be missing. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I just had a similar issue, my heater would only work on the freeway. Driving on the cold idaho streets, it would only blow cold air.
Mine was just an air pocket in the system. I popped off my cap, started the car, let it run while pouring anti-freeze in and sure enough my anti-freeze was low. Topped it off and now when it's warmed up my wagon throws heat :D
Not sure if this is any help to you and your situation and I apologize if I thread jacked you.
Hope this does help. Good luck
  • My 86 Si has been like that for years. I tape up the bumper opening for winter. A plastic or cardboard block off plate behind the bumper would do the same thing, and probably look better.

I've got a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. Doesn't help. Somehow it must be a flow problem.

It sounds like your heater core may be halfway plugged up, sometimes you can clean them out but a lot of the time you just have to replace it...

That or you've got some leaves or something blocking airflow, but my guess is that it's plugged internally.
