Only time ive ever seen a gas guage not work in a honda it was the guages themselves but im sure there could be more reasons for them not to work.

I was having that problem also. I thought it was my guages so I went to the junkyard and got another cluster and installed it, still had the same problem. So I went back to the junkyard and got the fuel float assembly. I installed it and sure enough it worked. The old float had sucked in some gas and the arm was loose.

Typically within those float units the shaft that the floater runs in will also build up crap on the sides and make it harder for the float to move up and down freely.

so is there a easy way to access the float or do you have to remove the whole fuel tank and pull it out?

im pretty sure you can access it from where the fuel pump is.. and to get to the fuel pump you have to get under the rear seats

I could be wrong but isn't it only RT4WD that have the access panel?

i dont think so. my civic hatch had one under the seats.

i dont think so. the whole assembly should just come out of the tank together. no need to drain

Well i looked at it but didnt have time to remove it.

But i been looking in the repair manual and there isnt mutch to work with so i might have to Do this by Knowhow.

Let ya know how it turns out.

My car now starting to sputter in first gear/ verry low RMPs / starting out, i thinking it the fuel injectors? Could it be anything elce?

When you turn your key one click before START do you hear your fuel pump prime up and then click off?
  • SweetOhSweetOh Wagonist

On my 89 Wagovan, here is what I found. The fuel gauge is what is in the middle of the tank. You unplug the wires, use a screwdriver or long needle nose to undo the steel ring that locks the unit into the tank. The whole thing lifts out and can be replaced without pulling the tank. The fuel pump, on the other hand requires the whole tank to come out. The pump is mounted on the drivers side and their is no access hold to it. The only way to get it out is to pull the tank. It is a real PITA, but thus it is.
