Are the '87- RT4WD transmissions and V/C's are different?

I have a line on a '87 RT4WD transmission and viscous coupler, but I'm assuming that they're not even close to the same as the later model stuff ('88+). Can anyone confirm one way or another? :(

  • Judging from the parts breakdowns available online

    http://www.hondapartscheap.com/

    it's an entirely different beast.
  • It certainly is,The mounts are entirely different from the 88+
And the only engines that will mount to that tranny are the ew/d15 from the 84-87 wagon, and the D16A1 from the G1 Integra.
That said,it could be MADE to work, but probably not worth the time/hassle

    just my $.02
  • DD Wagonist
trans internals swap between the early case and later case no problem. Mildly different ratios.
  • Sweet to know the internals swap!

I was contemplating on engineering an adapter plate for 84-87 trannies to use the common D series engines. That way only one mount would have to be fabricated.
