Getting transmission attached Help

I have been fighting this to exaustion what am I doing wrong? I did a re-alignment of my clutch to make sure. How do you attach a manual transmision back to an engine. I will post a pic when I get home.

  • Sounds like you are having issues getting the input shaft back in. It can be a pain sometimes.

A lot of wiggling and spinning the crank have worked for me in the past. Just be sure you used the clutch alignment tool when installing the pressure plate. Pull the starter off too if not already.

have you tried sliding the disk onto the shaft? Im only asking because Im wondering if you got a different spline count disk. otherwise, a little wiggling should do it.

Is the transmission the same year as the engine?

    Spline count differs between years...

Thanks I haven't changed anything so I am not worried about spline issues though that is a good point for anyone changing clutches. I bought an alignment tool so everything is good to go. The simple physics of getting it on by myself has baffled me. I remember years ago picking up a transmission and threading it on with a friend while a third friend threaded the holes. It was a pain and awkward to do... definitely not ergonomic:) I tried setting it all on the floor but the RT unit makes the transmittion sit at an angle. Now I have it all pretty close with the transmission on a crate. Just need a wiggler to help me line up and get the spindle to slide into the clutch.
  • line up the splines, little wiggle here and there, and patience. frustration is what makes getting the job done very hard! looks like you got the right idea

** im sure you know ** but it looks like you have a bolt in the trans going the wrong way in that picture.

I got it all on !!!

Thanks everyone. We ended up getting it pretty close and put some bolts in. Then with the hoist we tiped everything vertical and set the engine on the transmission with a little wiggle it slipped right into place.

I used my engine hoist to pick up the transmission then had another friend pick up the engine at an angle balancing it on the oil pan and managed to get it in with some twisting and wiggling. I didn't even have a proper clutch alignment tool. I literally said "I give up," and when to kind of put the transmission down so it will hang on the hoist and it slid right in. This was last night.
