Delayed start on A/C

Alright quick question guys.
I've searched but havnt found much luck, heres whats going on.

If the car is running and I press the ac button it delays before the compressor and ac light comes on I will have to adjust the blower speedknob (1-4) and it will eventually click on.
Might be 15 seconds might be 2 minutes, if I had the air on previously and start the car with the switch still pressed it will automatically cut on from startup tho like its supposed to.

Really not sure what this could be,i know its not the compressor because the air works fine once it cuts on,any help is greatly appreciated.thanks :D

  • Ok... There is a number of reasons for the issue but not being there I can only guess and make suggestions.

    1) b4 u turn on the car, put a meter on the compressor wire. Then start car to see if your getting power when u push the ac button. If you r, it's probably a compressor clutch going bad. to verify gently and carefully tap the compressor clutch to see if it engages.

    2) if no power it could be several things like low freon. In this case, it needs to build head pressure b4 engaging. Check the site glass on the drier. If u see bubbles its low. Top off first.

    3) check high and low pressure cycling switches.

    4) check for sticking ac relay by tapping on it gently or swapping it out with another relay.

    Hope this helps.
  • Thanks sooo much.ill definately try all these and hopefully find my problem
