Anyone ever had a 1 piece driveline made?

i remember hearing about someone who had a 1 piece driveline made i was wondering who that was and if they had the specs on the driveline. im talking to a few driveline shops about making me one and one suggested getting the specs and parts used from someone who has done it so it would makes thing easier and cheaper!!!

Pretty much you just make up a new driveshaft and remove the centre coupler.

It was HondaWagonSTS that did it, he used it for AutoX.

hes prolly not on here a lot is he? i was just wanting to get the specs from him if not its cool i can still have it done.

I'm pretty sure you could just speak to a driveline shop and they would know exactly what to do if you showed them the driveshaft.

The thing is... do you really want to do this? On dry pavement i can pretty much garentee you'll crack a diff or something similar.

the cost for a 1 piece driveshaft was $$$ so I just welded up the viscous coupling. been working great for years. (part time 4x4 only now via lever on transmission)

thats funny cuz i was thinking just today why dont i see if i can weld up my coupler. i think im gunna do that if its been tried out and works.

You can see the weld at the shaft and the viscous coupler.

The reason I did this was the coupling was leaking and I had no 4x4 just front wheel drive. No problems so far. A custom driveshaft would weigh a lot less. That coupling is pretty heavy.
  • I cannot imagine a solid D-shaft running from fron to the back!
At least there should be a intermediate support bearing to split the lenght...
Imagine the harmonic vibrations for a sec on 6 foot long prop shaft???
IMHO there should be 2 props....
    Cheers!

Any more info on welding the coupling? Mine is burning out and I'm trying to find the best solution.
