I really don't like red cars, but I've got 2 - UPDATED 1/19

  • It's her new favorite toy.

oh, and she's pretty fond of the vibrator too
  • Thats a great story!
  • Lol, thanks... I would rather have not ever had that experience, but looking back I laugh at it.

There's something about me, red cars, and sex-related businesses. The EK, when I picked it up was destined to be crushed. Kind of hard to believe someone was going to do it, but it did have a window off the track, mold starting to grow in it and wouldn't start (or so the owner thought?). Anyways, I picked it up and when I was cleaning it out I think we counted 47 empty packs of camel lights in the car, as well as coming across "mixer" cups (you know, when you and your buddies are heading to the bar and are pregaming and take a cheap cup with a mixed drink for the ride). Then in the hatch, we found 12 pairs of platform hooker shoes. I'm not talking like shit anyone would wear in public - the kind of shit that you see an "exotic dancer" wearing on stage as she rubs her muffin into some greasy trucker's face. Along with the shoes were various fur coats and other clothing that left little to be desired.

My theory is that she went to jail/prison and her parents brought the car in to be crushed, with the title. A friend I had knew someone, pulled some strings and I bought the car after driving 900 miles to WA to pick it up. To this day it still only has 2 minor dents in it. My assumption is her parents (or whoever) didn't know that it had the buy here pay here immobilizer on it and didn't know how to start it. I bought it as a shell, but they got it running by jumping the starter from the battery. Once I got it to my friend's house we discovered why it wouldn't start with the ignition. Drove that single cam for 1.5 years before gutting it for the K series.

Anyways - I'm bored and just keep typing so I will STFU now.

That was crazy! Thanks for taking the time to share
  • Haha, no problem. I've been busy working and trying to gather parts for my EK. Gotta get it ready for drag season.

However, I do have some plans for the wagon once spring arrives. I'm already burnt out on this snow and winter.
  • Minor Update:

    I rolled it.

Rolled it around town while picking up all the parts to rebuild the front end of my F350 the past couple days I've been home. Between work and my truck nothing has been getting accomplished on either of the cars. If I'm not at work, I've been working on the truck to keep it on the damn road.

Its always right when you think you're ahead something comes up, ya know?

Anyways, my friend drove it and he seems to think the bottom end is lacking power as well. I'm thinking an OBD1 SOHC VTEC engine swap is in its future, if not a full on single slammer build. I know where I can pick up a Darton Sleeved Z6 block on the cheap so I may start building an engine for it to boost once my EK is track ready.

Always so much to do and not enough time to do it in!
  • Well its not gonna be as fast as a normal fwd d-series because of the awd system. My dad drove my wagon and asked if it was only running on 3 cylinders. I figure I'm in for a rebuild/swap pretty soon here too. How many miles does the bottom end have on it? Burn any oil?
  • rolled it??
  • No, I didn't roll it...

And I know the AWD System robs power, but its pretty bad. It doesn't burn any oil and the bottom end only has 125K on it :/ So I dunno. When the EK is done I am going to do something about it. It works for now, but I just haven't driven anything in so long with so little power. Every Honda I've driven in recent years has had a swap of some sort and I'm really used to driving my Diesel truck so I am waiting for torque and the single cams simply have none, lol.

It works for now, and to beat around town.

Plus, what kind of mileage are you guys getting with your RT's? I'm only getting like 18/19mpg. I figured I'd get mid 20's out of it... my buddy and I were almost wondering if my VC is always locked up instead of engaging and disengaging. He was even surprised about the lack of bottom end power it has and he has one himself.
  • In the winter I get 18/19 when its warmer I can squeeze 24 out of it. I switched to a lighter rear diff fluid because it sees a lot of highway and winter driving don't remember what weight but I picked up a few mpg compared to last winter and spring. I'm thinking this spring I will try and find a few new parts and do a stroker 1.7. You should see if you can get your fab guy to do a header for the rt :)

    That's not ok lol

Of the three I've owned, I've always gotten high 20's at least! I'm only a tank and a half into the new one, but still got 300 miles out of the first tank.

Jane, my last, consistently broke 30mpg (80% highway).

How you drive also says a lot (I'm sure you know). I'm a bit of a hyper-miler... but not the crazy ones that turn off the ignition lol

I know he'd build me one. I just dont know if the market would be there to make them an quantities. I'd have to see if there is support for it. To be honest, you'd probably be looking at $4-500 a header with time and materials by the time he's done. Plus, I know he much prefers building turbo manifolds, because like me - he likes seeing shit go fast, lol.

I'll talk to him though. I've got the perfect mockup vehicle I suppose.

And I don't know wtf to think about the VC. I remember turning it by hand with the parking brake set by hand when disconnected from the transmission. It wasn't easy to say the least, but I figured maybe it was just working properly. Actually, I know its working properly... a couple weeks back when it was snowing I was in front of some store windows. I dumped the clutch and the front tires spun then I could visibly see the delay before the rears did.

I think the A6 just is slacking on power from the factory. I can't help but drive it like a dick, because it really feels like there's a lack of power compare to everything else I drive.

I still love the car. I'll just build another engine and put it in eventually. Until then, this one will work. And I also suppose all my driving has been in the cold, around town, stop and go. I have only ran it down the hwy twice for about 12 miles to my parents', but I will typically go through town to get there unless I am by the interstate already.

Got to ask did you get to see your lady use it for you to clear your mind.from.all that ?????
  • No, I hadn't. And Actually I got a text yesterday saying she had left the drawer open (it was still in the packaging) and our Black Lab got it and chewed it all to hell. That retarded dog loves plastic wrappers for some reason.
  • I am curious to know what you do in the oilfield. I am on a frac crew for Schlumberger. Sometimes we have to go up to North Dakota to help out the Williston district.

We hate going up there. What a clusterfugg.

BTW, my old RT (belongs to ludeman now) would get 30+ mpg highway if I drove it easy.
  • I work for Scientific Drilling as a Gyro Hand.

Run run run, that's the name of the game.

My brother and I are looking into purchasing a couple 40' gooseneck flatbeds and starting a hotshot company. We've already got the Trucks for it and the connections (he works the rigs down in Wyoming), I see 20+ company men on a monthly basis (the job I am on right now, I was just cooked a steak by the company man). Him and I were talkin about it to while eating and he told me he'd tell me who to talk to for his company and how to get on their MSA (Master Service Agreement). Hell, $640 for a load ran from Williston to location earlier today is what he paid - its 22 miles, no joke.

My personal goal was to clear 6 figures before taxes this year and I'll be about $4k shy is what its looking like (unless I work every day to the end of the year). If they can't help me do it, I'll try myself.

So, that being said What I am doing now is hopefully just going to balloon into my next career move. Don't know for sure if it will, but with my connections and determination I'll regret it if I don't at least try.
  • Haha I only saw 30 mpg once with a tailwind of about 35mph. That being said I drive it 80mph on the interstate and am satisfied with the 22-24 it gets. Ill be in dickinson over xmas break from the 22nd till the 7th if either of you guys are in town
  • I'm sure in a time frame that large that at some point I will be. I'll hit you up if I am. 16 days? I'd be REALLY fucking surprised if I wasnt.

I got 33 mpg once coming back from drill in Billings. But, that was going 65 mph and really shifting easy when going through small towns on the way back home.
  • Welp, I put the GTI Lip I got out of the junkyard for $10 last night.

I'll post some pics up I took of it later tonight or tomorrow.

And my suspicions were correct! As I was waiting for my friend to come pick up the Corbeaus he was buying from me, I got bored and threw the wagon on the lift. Timing WAS off a tooth. I knew that thing didn't feel right. It didn't misfire at all, it just had NO balls.

So I spent a good portion of an hour and a half correcting it. It honestly feels like a completely different car now. I can't wait to see what kind of MPG's I gain out of it!
  • Had to bust out the DSLR today before I left the shop, after I fixed the timing belt. This is all on auto settings, as I still need to learn how to use the camera manually before I even attempt to take pictures, lol:

And one of my EK getting gutted, and ready for the 10 point ;) I've still got to pull the glass, suspension and wheels off of it.

Looks good dude!! keep it up! If you have any questions about the K swap hit me up! I have a k24 crx and roomate has a k20 ek coupe. built both cars in a small garage!
  • I probably couldve used the help last spring, but it is in the car and has ran for a while. I've only driven it a handful of times, and at the track twice - of course I ended up with one of those counterfeit ECU's, so I was having hell both days at the track and didn't get shit for passes in.

The engine is a K24 w/K20 head built by Reid at Kaizenspeed. Pretty much the only thing I didn't do was sleeve it (wishing I would have now), but at the time it started as just an overbored stock rebuild, then ballooned from there. I'm about $4700 into the engine with travel expenses to go the 600 miles to pick it up (I didn't trust any shipping company after dumping that much $ and time into the engine).

I'm hoping we can conservatively get 600-650 HP out of it and be safe still. We're probably going to be switch all of our cars over to E85 for this season if we can get some (no one sells it in MT!).

Alas, I can't wait to race this season. And for all you Eastern Washingtonians - Our whole crew from the Billings area WILL be at IFO in Spokane Sept. 16. I've gone so far as to already request the days off... remember, we're from Montana and there's only two things to do here. Drink and work on our cars. We try to be damn good at both ;)
  • Brought it in and had the RT Steelies taken off, because I am selling them to a friend.

So, I had the good BFG's on those put on some black steel wheels, and I'm rocking the DX EK Hubcaps originally from my car. Since they're not rust on white, I think it actually makes the car look better (personally, you may not, but I don't care).

Now I just need to track down front Seat covers (top and bottom) in good shape from a grey interior so I can recover mine and I'll be happy with it for winter!

On a side note, got the Exospeed front end ordered for my EK ;)
  • slo88crxslo88crx Senior Wagonist
Exospeed front!! nice. I was actually thinking of picking up one of those for the CRX but changed my mind! too much $$ in paint to just remove and repaint the parts, plus I drive my car too much on the streets! But it looks like you are building the car for the track also!

Keep up the good work! looks good!
  • Keep your eyes open in dickinson, brown wagon was spotted on north 22!
  • I actually ordered a front for my EK and one for my buddy's CRX yesterday (only pay 1 shipping charge that way since 2 fit ina crate). Wil at Exospeed has been awesome to deal with. He's very quick with his replies to emails and even yesterday when they were technically closed he emailed me back and had me call him direct to place the order. Looking forward to them showing up! ETA is late Jan early February, but we figured we better get the order in now, because with the season fast approaching we figured they were going to be swamped with orders.

And yeah - the EK won't see the streets save for a local hot rod cruise around downtown called "Burn the Point", and even that isn't for sure. I'm going to keep it licensed though, because its only $35/year. Other than that its only going to see track duty.

And I wanna see said wagon! I haven't seen a single one in Dickinson yet - speaking of which, are there any wrecking yards worth a damn there?
  • haha no junk yards around at all
  • I had a brilliant Idea tonight, but unfortunately its kind of too late to do it. Next year though!

I've got a 12v to 110 converter that plugs into a cigarette lights in a car (for running my laptop while sitting in my truck). I was thinking I should've ran lights up and around the rack for Christmas!

Then... I came up with an even better idea than that. I don't want to give it away, but you'll see pics next year, lol. Its going to be awesome.
  • Welp, finally was able to play in the snow a little bit - had to run last night to pick up the new end table and coffee table the Wife and I ordered in a couple weeks ago, then had to make a pit stop at Target to get some more Diapers, wipes and some formula, because we made a little addition to our stable:

I'm a damn proud daddy! He's healthy, Mommy is healthy, I'm tired. Gonna get back to cuddling with the little dude for the evening! Just thought I'd shoot a quick update!

And I got a little bit of work done on my EK - Had to get rid of HVAC stuff and get it ready for the cage:
