Rear Brake Noise Question
Hi,
I have an '88 2WD wagon that has an ongoing thumping/clicking noise when I brake in the back. It only makes the noise when light to medium pressure is on the pedal (hard braking does not cause the noise or causes it to go away). It sounds to me like something might be rubbing in there as the wheel turns as it gets slower as the car gets slower. It ONLY makes noise when braking, not when driving along.
Thing is, I've had the brakes done (and re-done) 4 times now. Everything has been replaced - shoes, drum, rotors, etc. Even the tires (although they needed replacement anyway). After the 3rd time the shop called the parts mfg and explained what was happening and they sent them all new parts to do it again. After #4 it was great for a week or so then the sound has been coming back once again. First in the rear right, then it seems to have shifted to the rear left. It seems apparent to me that either the shop doesn't know what they're doing or something else is going on.
Feeling a little desperate as I've put WAY too much into this car now and it's running great all around except for this one last thing. Does anyone have ANY idea as to what might be happening or what to check next? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks!
Mic

It does not screech and doesn't sound piercing at all, it's sort of a dull thudding sound. I just drove it a little ways and held the brake slightly while driving and the sound persists if I lightly hold the brake pedal whether braking or accelerating but goes away when the brake pedal is let go. The brakes feel great - no pulsing on the pedal or anything like that at all. If I were deaf I'd probably never know the problem was there.
Also check the wheel bearing
