Master Cylinder

Never done a Honda master cylinder before.
How simple is it to replace the master in an EF2 Shuttle?

Very easy if you have the right tools to unbolt the brakelines.

Make sure you use a flare wrench to remove the brakelines otherwise you may round the flare nuts(&that's not good).

You'll need to bleed the system. So do it before installing the MC others after. This makes it a great time to flush the brake system w/new brake fluid.

  Good time to upgrade to a larger MC like the one from the 4WD Civic Shuttle(plug n play).or a 15/16" Honda MC.

bench bleed the master cylinder before you try to install it. save yourself a lot of time.
  • If you have the cash I recommend a hand vacuum pump. When I replaced mine, the groves worn in the old push rod (not sure what the technical name is) that goes into the MC damaged the seal on the new MC and caused a lot of brake fluid leak into my brake booster. It was a mess! If I had bleed it with a vacuum pump instead of pumping the pedal I could have avoided this problem.

Flare wrench is a must! the master cylinders are pretty easy to change. Where abouts in auckland are you? if your local i can pop around if you need

I got a mechanic up the road to swap it out, didn't cost me the earth. Partmaster also did a new master cylinder for $120, whereas Repco said $260 haha.

But now it won't start, zero spark. Guess it's new dizzy time also.

^ How likely is that to still count in New Zealand?
I've gotten a new dizzy anyway.
