dash smoking?

Well car sat for a week, longest since i have owned it. took it out tonight and about 20 miles in at a stop light i saw a little smoke coming out between the steering column and the gauge cluster, hint of burning wire smell. shut the car off, dropped the steering column and stuck my hand back there to see if i could feel heat. nothing, light turned green, fired er up and nothing. pulled it over and had a look see, nothing out of the ordinary.

got back on the road and started playing with all the electronics running to the steering wheel and noticed just a hint of smoke rising again. pulled over and couldn't see it any more. have left the steering column all the way down in case it was causing a wire to ground out. 30+ miles back with no problems.

searched a little on here and couldn't find much, a couple of people had there grounds go bad and fried there wiring harness. any one have any ideas? thanks in advance.

yes, it ended up being that. replaced it today.

i took it out to lunch and smelled hot wires right before i shut it down to go inside. came back out it would crank right up untill i let go of the key and it would instantly shut off. my wife played around with it a little and got it to run. brought it home and picked up the ign. switch. thing runs like a dream, man the contacts in that switch were dirty/worn. thing this was the smoking u can see the solder melted...
