d15 bottem end VS d16 bottom end.....

what makes a d15 a d15? is it a smaller piston bores? stroke? im asking because my buddy is offering me a free d15 and i want to use the bottom end to make my mini me. my plan was to get shot peened d16 rods w/ ARP bolts, and vittara pistons but will the d15 crank let me do this?

D15 has a shorter deck height (207 mm vs. 212 mm), stroke (84.5 mm vs. 90 mm) and connecting rod (134 mm vs. 137 mm) than the D16.

however, as far as i know, the D16 rods will work with a D15 block and crank using Vitara pistons. this is due to the Vitara's lower compression height and huge dish.

are you going turbo or N/A?

    turbo

so, you're going for a low compression build? or middle-of-the road, with less boost?

im going for low compression but if that d15 has a wierd deck height im just gunna stick with the vittaras in my d16 block with the y8 head.

yeah, use the D16 block. you get some odd stuff mixing D15/D16 bottom end parts.

compression with the Vitaras and a Y8 head would be about golden in a D16... 8.6 or so.

i hope so i was worried that the y8 head would bump it up too pretty much what it is now..... i guess ill just have to try it out and see.
  • I was looking into putting a y8 head on an a6 for my RT, but read cr is around 11:1....
am I high or does that look correct?

    edit: nvm: 10.6:1

This is what I have, its a nice jump from stock a6 as long as you do a real vtec with ecu, not an RPM switch.
I bought mine with the RPM switch and my buddy loaned me a vtec ecu and a conversion harness to try for a day and it was nice
