Car RUNS but NO GO.. Fuel fump reads empty..

Okay I am in a bind.. I just got a d16y8 swap in my 91 wagon.. When I turn my car on, my fuel pump gauge just dies.. Car runs and all but wont go.. What could the issue be.. Somebody said I had a kill switch But have no idea.. Before I start the car no check light.. Ill start it check light goes on.. Turn on the lights or press on the brakes and the car wants to stall.. Corner lights are on when the switch is off.. I got a brand new main relay so No clue.. It was running well yesterday. But then i saw my gauge start cutting off. Then go back up then run like a champ all day..

    Bad earth possibly? Double check them all and give them a clean if they look dirty at all

    check all the grounds. check the ground to the fuel pump. make sure the connector is in securely on the fuel pump.

    Does your coolant gauge & Tach die when your fuel gauge dies?

    My coolant gauge works. Goes up and down from time to time.. How many grounds should there be..? I see about 3. Also thanks guys.

    i think there is 3 grounds under the hood. one on the trans, one on the block, and one on the valve cover

    Okay kool. I checked them all but still feels like its cutting out. Could it be from timing issues.? When I put the key in and turn it but not start it I hear the pump. It shuts off. Everythings good. But then when I start it. Check light comes on and my car gets all shakey. I cant check the engine code cause theres no spot for me to check the blinks.. Its krazy.

    Theres like a back feed to my cornerlights sometimes and thats when it gets weird. Oh yeah and after that my key is out of the lgnition ill press my brakes and my whole dashboard will light up.

    Maybe you hook-up the D16y8 wiring wrong.Sounds like you have a lot of shorts between different systems.A lot of the ones you mention are not related.

    fuel gauge,stall,corner lites,press brakes(dash lites up or stalls) & shakey idle.

    You know what it might be.???Loose battery terminal and electrical shorts.

    Im taking it to an auto electrician rt now. So im going to see whats up. Ill keep you guys posted to let you know what so up.

  • I am having sort of the same issue, well not really but my car starts then dies right away. the cel doesnt come on when key is initially cycled. fuel pump only gets to about 10 volts. I have a brand new dizzy, brand new battery, added extra grounds and re-soldered all loose or worn connections. I'm baffled. any ideas??

    i went though a looong drawn out process with that exact same symptom... sort of. my car wouldnt fire at all. but only got 10v on fuel pump.
    never figured it out so i soldered 2 contacts inside the relay so it bypasses the actual relay. but after looking back at my post on here im almost sure its the ignition switch. bam even suggested it... when will i learn to just do what he says lol. ive had to replace the switch since then. i should take the solder off my relay to test my theory.
