Removing dead pedal

What's the best way to get the dead pedal up? It's the only thing keeping the carpet in. I was working on stripping my 88 RT4WD and got stuck at the dead pedal.

    Pry the tread part off with a small screwdriver, there are 2 bolts underneath.

    Thanks bam. I tried with a screwdriver and bent it so I figured I was doing something wrong and didn't want to break it.

    It just pops out- the textured flat insert on top, that is.

    so when the dead pedal is gone what is left? like a hole or still a hump in the floor board?

    its layed over the carpet i believe so you should not have a hole

    You will have 2 screws sticking out of 2 holes in the carpet.
