How to replace boot struts lifters

Hey all, did to a search to no avail. My boot struts have gone - i have sourced some on ebay, but having had a look at them on my car i cant see an obvious way to remove them without taking the brackets that hold them in place as well. SO what im asking really is there a way of separating the strut from the boot brackets?

also has anyone purchased these?

haha i know, i thought i would be able to work it out. the ones on the boot have a plastic cover that when removed reveals some bolts and a metal bracket. If this is removed then you can take the top bit off, but you will then be without a bracket so ultimately you will still need to get off it! I have tried yanking it to no avail! Im sure there is a simple method that i am hoping someone will let me know!

Let me see if bam-bam can explain it to you; he told me but I've never done it so I don't want to tell you the wrong thing.

The bracket you speak of is part of the strut assembly. If the new parts you've ordered are correct, they will come with the bracket attached.

Search for "hatch struts". We don't call it a boot over here!

    Good stuff here:

I got ones with lifetime warranty from O'reily Auto. After a month or two one snapped off in the hatch part.

I have not been able to extract the stud yet. I either over tightened or it's just a piece of crap.

thanks Bam! lost in translation i think! I have check on the links mentioned, but still not found anything, check on ebay in the states and they only have them for the later wagon years......i may have to take a punt on some here and hope for the best :(, but the seller seems to have no idea if they come with the bracket or not. Buy and hope i suppose!
