Subwoofer Install

So I finally got around to getting my stereo all wired up yesterday, but I'm not stoked on the sub (just in a box behind the rear seat)... just takes up too much room, and i'm not looking to have my car broken into. again.

I'm not really keen on buying a shallow sub to put under the seat... so i was thinking about making a box for the spare tire well in the back.

I tried searching, but anything that came up had dead pictures.

Anyone have a setup with a false floor or a custom box for the wheel well and want to share some pics?

if you build your box from MDF like i did lay a towel under it to keep it from rattling
max mounting depth with my setup is 6.25"
i am considering swapping out the single 10 MTX for 2 10" or 3 8" type Rs

wow... that first link was out of control.
too over the top for what i had in mind.

minimotos> thanks for sharing. much closer to what i had in mind. nice to see that you can fit a standard sized sub box in the well.
Although i was thinking of a circular enclosure... made from large dia. pvc.
anyone attempted that on here? pretty sure i have a decent idea of how it would work, just unsure about how to make the top part of the enclosure so you can securely attach the sub.
  • cant really do a complete PVC enclosure in the tire well
you could do a complete glassed bottom and sides then build a standard wooden top to give you a bit more airspace in there
  • ^ yup i was going to give fiber glassing a try, got distracted with other projects on my car, once i get a pair or 3 subs i will do it then mount the amp inside the side panel.
