RHD Conversion Parts Req'd?

I searched this but could not find much information on it. What parts are required for a RHD conversion? Obviously the interior JDM parts and the steering system but what about front suspension? shift linkage? pedals? Im just thinking about some possibilities. Any help would be great!

pedals, COMPLETE firewall. clutch cable and throttle cable are also different. under-dash wiring....

suspension, shift linkage, etc. are the same.
  • Thanks for the reply.
With the firewall, does that involve a saws-all? Would you just cut fore and aft of it to take it out and then weld it in?

Is this something you will be trying to bring back with you? If so why not just do a half cut and shift the complete front end in your household goods? This will ensure you have everything needed for the swap. Granted it will be a bit cumbersome for storage for now but would be bad if you got back to the US and found out you were missing parts.
  • I think that is what is going to happen. I was trying to keep it as small as possible. My japanese compulsory insurance is up soon and will be about $1000. I would rather look for another Shuttle instead of keeping this one complete and insured. I'll cut it down and have it crated up. I have several dealers looking for a RTi limited edition for me...keeping my fingers crossed. Here are some others I found, they are a little pricy though.

Notice the second one has USDM lights all around.

Wow it seems that the prices in Japan are going up just like everywhere else. The red is not too bad though considering the condition and options. The gray one those is a big overpriced. Same when I was there visiting family. One skyline was 2500 bucks with goodies, and another stock one was 5000. Same year, same model, just depends on where it is sitting.

The half cut shouldn't weigh much luckily and shouldn't be too much against your weight allowance. Good luck with your search.

Why the pedals? The gas is still on the right and clutch on the left on a RHD. Is the mounting into the chassis different? Shifter should be the same too. The shift pattern stays 1st on the left and 5th on the right.

    That red one is HOT.
I am in love with the interior. And barely 30K+ miles on it!(faints)

Good luck if you try the conversion. I was gonna do it with my CRX but it was just waaay too much work and couldn't find anyone to help me do it. Ended up selling the clip for parts.

i was just assuming the pedals having different mounting.

I think the pedals mount differently.

    Different angle.

Here is what you need, I have an ongoing RHD project. It is the small stuff you don't realize about.

    1. firewall at least cut from front of hood hinges to near shifter hole. Gives you plenty of meat to remove since it is not needed versus fabbing.
(remove all 150+ spot welds, replace with rhd firewall) then weld in.
    2. pedal assembly
    3. metal support bar that goes over pedal bracket
    4. column assy and wiring harness (technically switches are reversed compared to lhd)
    5. throttle cable
    6. clutch cable
    7. speedo cable
    8. wiper assembly and motor
    9. air conditioning (all stuff on firewall (totally ass backwards from LHD stuff) as well as piping
    10. cowl panel
    11. hood release
    12. sill trim for doors (LHD can be modded with holes and otherside filled)
    13. windshield trim inner (for oh gosh handle) (same theory can be modded)
    14. trunk and fuel release leaver ( you will also need cables to make them work) ( I modded my fuel release cable with a hood cable)
    15. interior harness (if possible (goes under dash) LHD one can be used but will need to be flipped)
    16. cabin harness will need to be flipped due to connection point is on other side now
    17. dead pedal (jdm one totally different than LHD)
    18. brake lines that run along the firewall (can make own or get complete set up)
    19. engine harness needs to be flipped for RHD versus LHD.
    20. dash
    21. upper center console (different from LHD)
    22. steering rack and rear subframe.

That is all I can think of so far.

I've got a link somewhere of a guy in cali that did it. He step by step took pictures that is what I'm trying to do with mine. Plus also do write ups for the other idiots that want to go through this painful theory.

Yes I'm saying idiots. I'm doing it cause of a few factors.

    Not for shows.

I'm doing it cause I'm an EFmadman and I also grew up in London.

    I just want something different.

Just import a front cut might be the easiest way I'd assume? Without an engine would save you even more.

OR, import a RHD shuttle/wagon and plate and tag the sucker ;)

It helps to read the whole thread so you dont post the same info over again.

  • rbwdrivenrbwdriven Senior Wagonist
    Yep I've heard the same.

I'm guessing due to how low it was it took a beating.

I know he got a few fix it tickets lately about it.
