Looking for the rear differential guru!

ok so my rt came with some documents from honda/acura dealer about some inspections that were done from the previous owner. it states that the rear diff. leaks at the pinion seal? i called a dealer and the service guy pretty much said they would have to look at it, my question is, does anyone know what seal would be referred to as the pinion seal? i have looked at the exploded view of the diff and part numbers/names but nothing is named pinion seal. Kinda scratching my head here, the drive shadt and the axles are out right now to prevent any damage from the leaky fluid. can anyone shed some light? thanks

Pinion seal would be the one on the front, where the driveshaft connects.

Hmm, wonder what would cause this. Don't let it run out of fluid!

The fluid is drained and the axles/ driveshaft are currently removed. Next step is to decided to make it a DIY project or go wee Honda

Part # 30 in this pic.

If you have the rear axles out, make sure there's something going through the rear hubs at the wheels, otherwise your wheel could fall off.

ty for the info jaker, i was already leaning toward that seal, since they didnt have any others besides the axle seals :p but i do have the axle wheel hub in place to keep the tires on. Very useful tip though, before i owned this thing i would not have known the difference.
  • Back to the top,and a quick hijack since it has to do with the 3rd member..

Anyone know a good place to buy a rebuild kit for the 3rd? Mine's leaking and has a vibration at 55+. I have a feeling the driveline needs to be balanced and caused the issue. I'd rather buy all bearings/races/seals just to make sure it's in good shape since the car has 217k on it.
