Questions about Rywire Jumper harness

If anyone has used the Rywire obd0-obd1 jumper harness on a 88-91 Civic/crx (DPFI) then maybe you could clear up a few questions I have.

First off, They sell and "integrated VTEC harness" that is supposed to provide all the necessary clips for several components... but it doesn't necessarily list the o2 sensor as one of them. The pics look like there is a four-wire o2 sensor clip, but it's hard to see.

Anybody know if it's there, or will I still have to wire it up manually?

Second, the instructions are pretty clear on how to use obd0 injectors, or convert to obd1 injectors and bypass the resistor box. It seems like its just your own personal preference about which you want to use. I want to know, is there any difference as far as flow rates or reliability or anything else? I have both sets of injectors, I just need to know if there is any additional benefit of one or the other.

Last, I'm pretty sure the Z6 does not have a knock sensor. Correct?

Thanks for the help!
-Doug

PS sorry if this is in the wrong section. I wasn't sure if electrical or engine would be better, but based o the number of wiring and ecu related questions already here, i figured it would be ok.

    Hello!

Hope I can answer a few questions for you, Yes the standard jumper has a pig tail that has 10 wires coming off for Vtec, vtec PSi,O2, code jumper, ect. but there's no plugs on the ends of the wires. If you would like a pick of one I can post it??

As for injector, I would say use the "OBD-0" ones, due to the simple fact that if you ever need to run larger injectors someday you don't need to install a resistor box back on. The flow rate is the same either way OBD-0 vs OBD1, 240cc

Yes you are correct there's NO knock sensor on a Z6 engine

Thank you so much for your informative response. I have been asking a few questions on D-series.org, and all i seem to get is "search harder" or "here's the phone number for rywire, call them." I remember when that site was actually full of helpful, knowledgeable members. Seems like now it's a bunch of e-snobbish know-it-alls. They seem to have this belief that d-series knowledge is sacred text, and to earn it, one must prove one's worth with a grueling quest through poorly organized forums and legions of terribly un-informative threads!

I think I have given up on that site.

I hadn't thought about the possibility of larger injectors in the future, and needing to re-install the resistor box. Knowing that the flow rate is the same, I'll stick with the obd-0's.

The harness alone has ten loose wires coming off it, but if you pay extra you get the integrated VTEC subharness (which has the plugs included for vtec solenoid, vtec press, knock sens, etc).
(there's actually a bundle with ecu harness, vtec harness, and dizzy adapters)http://www.rywire.com/catalog/obd0-mpfi-to-obd1-conversion-package-p-69.html

It's just not very clear about whether or not there is a plug for the o2 sensor or if i will need to wire it up. It seems like the plug would be on there. It really doesnt matter either way. I'm just gonna order it and figure it out when it gets here.

Lil'ghost bought the Rywire jumper for her OBD1 conversion, very nice piece. I retained the OBD0 injectors and it works fine. We didn't get the VTEC subharness, just used her existing plugs since it was already a running B16 swap. I had to find the 4wire o2 plug locally which was no big deal. I understand that the VTEC plugs are hard to find (I"M looking for some too), so you may want to go ahead and pay the extra and be done with it.

Check her build thread, I think there are some pics of the process.

In the link you provided I can clearing see a 4 wire 02 sensor!! :D don't feel bad I looking at Honda's, parts and cars all day for a living!!

Ohh as for D-series.org there's about 20+ members on there that know everything and if your the new guy asking questions then your just wasting there time, as least thats how the forum rubbs on me. Sometimes evan if you "know it all" you can learn more by pretending you don't and just be a helpfull person and answer a few simple questions for your fellow car enthusiast. FYI the search button will not always tell you everything.

Dude, the guys at Rywire are awesome. If you have other questions about thier products, just let them know. They helped me out a ton. i hate waiting for online responces when I can get instant answers from the people who actually build the products. definatly one of teh better companies ive worked with.

plus, if your going OBD1, what are you tuning with? if its chrome, you can just do an o2 delete. I deleted the o2, the knock, and one other thing I cant remember right now. Cleaned up a lot of the wiring.

Thanks! I have the complete car that the z6 is coming out of, so if i can't find connectors at the junk yard, i can use those. I'd rather not, but i'll do what I have to.

I thought there was a plug in there, but I could only see 3 wires, so i wasn't totally sure. I'm confident about it now, so i'm ordering.

BTW I totally agree with what you said about d-series.org. It wasn't always like that though, which is sad. Before last week, i hadn't been on that site in 7+ years. back when it was just a simple forum in the black and orange color scheme. Back when it was useful.

That's good to know, I will call them if i need to.

For now, it won't be chipped or tuned. It will be a mostly stock D16z6 with a p28, going into the 89 RT4WD. Might chip and tune in the future, maybe copy the setup from the Lemons car my brother works on.

I wasn't aware you could delete o2. I don't know a whole lot about tuning, etc. How does the o2 delete work?

    Good News!
ACT lists the same part numbers for the RT wagon as it does for the del sol Si, so it looks like i can use my clutch/flywheel combo!
  • 2 new questions about this swap....

Will the z6's intake manifold and fuel rail be compatible, or will i need to swap them with the a6 parts?

Also, the trans is staying in the car, so the right side and rear mounts will be fine, but I'm wondering about the driver side motor mount. the del sol z6 mount looks different than the wagon a6 mount, and it doesn't look like the z6 mount will attach to the bracket on the a6 block. Can i just use the z6 mount, or do I need to take all the shit off the front of the motors and swap out the brackets on the motor and use the a6 mount?
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
for the mounts, you may (will) need to...
take all the shit off the front of the motors and swap out the brackets on the motor and use the a6 mount

i am running a Y7 motor in mine, and had to do that. doesnt take but maybe an hour at the most.

intake manifold: you can use the Z6 or A6, doesnt matter. if you use the A6 you will need the A6 fuel rail, and the Z6 with the Z6 fuel rail. either one will work with your injectors and fuel lines.
  • Excellent. Thanks!

Jumper harness came in the mail today. Just need to find an engine hoist. None of the auto parts stores around here will loan them out.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
engine hoist, pshhhh. i managed to do 5 d-series engine swaps without one, you should be fine hehe.
  • Uuummm.... damn.

Note to self: Don't piss off that guy!
