Why does my hatch light cover keep breaking?

I stole a hatch light cover from a 1988 wagon and went to put it on my 1990, all happy I found one in good shape. Reached around and pushed it on and it went click. Problem solved. A day later I'm showing the light to my son and looked a little loose on one side. I pushed it tight and I hear crack and the thing falls off in my hand. One of the prongs cracked off. AHHH! What did I do? It looks like it should just clip on and be fine? Any ideas? What other cars use this cover cuz I guess I need another one.

    The light assembly from an 07+ acura mdx or rdx will fit the stock opening and its about 10$
