Shaking while driving

After 30 minutes of driving on the freeway at 65mph, my car would start shaking in the front. After making a stop, the shaking would stop. Driving in the city, it runs just fine. It only does this when driving at high speed. The car is automatic and 4 wheel drive. Thanks.

the wheel bearings probaly needs to be changed... if you lift the front up with a jack so the tires are free spining try moving the whole wheel around if it moves more then normal then that is your problem

i have no wheel movement when jacked and the car only starts shaking after a good 30 to 40 mintues on freeway. ill get out of freeway and stops shaking.if i do a 5 to 10 minute stop it'll take same 30 ot 40 minutes to start shaking if it starts shaking. i can drive all day in city an no shaking.it doesnt shake all the time.thanks folks for replys

If it only happened after you got tires I think this may be the culprit.. look for new wheel weights or see if all the old ones are still there

Try disengaging the 4wd on the transmission and see if it still does it. I'm pretty sure from other people that have had similar problems with bad U-Joints it would go away with the 4wd disengaged and point to the driveshaft as the problem.

I was thinking about it and trying to figure out why it would only happen after 30-40 minutes on the highway if it was U-Joints on the rear drive shaft. What I came up with is that due to the gearing of the car the front and rear wheels are ever so slightly out of sync to create preload on the viscous coupler. After 30-40 minutes at highway speed that preload might generate enough heat to start to lock up the coupler and make the problem show up. Stopping for a rest for a bit allows the coupler to cool and the problem doesn't re-occur until the coupler heats up again. Just an off the cuff idea I just came up with but it seems possible.

On a related note all 4 tires are the same size correct?

all wheels are the same. stock.i took it out today 1 hour drive and no shaking to there and back.
  • ''do you want fries to go with that shake?''

Please, find a road long enought to do a couple of different runs to test various situation...
like below or above a certain speed. uphill downhill etc...

    you know the drill...

my car shakes in between 50 and 65ish, but im sure that has somethin to do with my front springs bein broken and bad upper control arms. hahaha
