Weird problem

So, I've got a weird problem with my wagon. Whenever the car is in reverse, the ignition will not shut off and the car keeps running. If I shut off the ignition when in any other gear, the car shuts off normally. Before I go digging into this thing, has anyone here heard of this before? I'm guessing it has to be something related to the backup light circuit since that's the only thing electrically related to this.

Is it an automatic? Sounds like shifter interlock.

A short that gets closed through the reverse light switch? I had a problem with the reverse lights on my car as well. I ended up running a seperate wire from the reverse switch thoughout the car all the way to the harness in the hatch area to make them work. I never did find the bad wire, but I know there's a problem there somehwere.

Easy enough to see if this is where the problem lies. Unplug the 2 wires on the reverse switch and see if the engine shuts off. If it does, you know that's where the problem lies. You just have to figure out what the actual problem is!

Try following the reverse wire.It might be shorting some where.
