(San Diego) Nujperez wagon-another money pit started 3/26/11

I just picked up my 91 front wheel drive wagon March 26, 2011 same day I registered here in this forum. I want to document my build so I'm starting it with my own build thread. My real intention is to have a daily drive that can do 30+mpg because gas keep on going up here in San Diego just like my first full tank with this car was 4.09/gal at shell. I know this going to be another money pit for me.. just like my honda ruckus, my 73 corolla, and my 88 mazda b2200. So here we go for the initial photo

The 17" rims has to go.. I already ordered a set of 15" drag 16 (rota GT3 look alike). The next plan is to lower it so I need suggestions on what will be the cheapest way but good quality set up for me to lower it at least 2".

yeah, hopefully there is a stopping point on this car.. I just recently bought a 73 corolla and I'm currently working on that, but I will make sure that this wagon will get an equal share of love.

ebay coilovers, and extended tophats will keep smooth ride and allow a small drop or slamming it. total costs, $50 at most.

They're leaps and bounds better than cut springs, lowering on stock shocks will lead to blown shocks eventually unless you do the extended tophats. 2 inches should be fine for a while. Good Looking wag BTW!

Nah, he wouldn't give the wagon to me for that price because while i was test driving it, a bunch of people was calling him. He never thought there will be a lot of interest for his wagon. I got it a little bit higher than the price he gave u but i took the wheels coz he doesnt have the stockies. It's ok though, if I sell these 17 rims, then it would match the price he gave u. Still pretty cheap and I can say that it's worth it coz it still runs strong, good for my daily.

So, i settled on some ebay coilovers and extended tophats last night i was up until 1230am. I can't afford to drop 600 bucks for a name brand set of coils right now because i'm already spending so much on my corolla, i just want my wagon to be low. I had experience on these coils when i used to have my DA. I dont care about being bouncy because i had cars that sits with the a cut bumpstop which is about half inch and didnt bother me and the only travel i have was the softness of the bumpstop. Hopefully with the extended tophats Il get a little bit of travel. Will keep u guys posted with pics.

    1121.jpg

    applied some degreaser
    1122.jpg

    some debris in here
    1123.jpg

had to use some vice grip to hold the support lift
    1124.jpg

decided to fix the back speaker that has broken mounting holes.. used jb weld and some washers to reinforce the cracked plastic
    1125.jpg

after degreasing the engine bay, washing the exterior, vacuum, and some armor all on the dash and panels..

Found them on ebay but I didnt use them coz the ebay coilvovers have plastic upper perch and If I use it then I have to use those plastic perch.. I probably would just sell it coz seller doesn't accept refund. I can also look for an aluminum upper perch.

so last night I finished lowering my car.. pretty straight forward install and not as complicated as my 2004 VW GTI(sold and got the wagon and cant really tell if it's a downgrade or an upgrade lol :D ) when I installed its coilover. Very few bolts needed to unbolt.. 12mm, 14mm, and 17mm. Anyways, I supposed to use the extended top hats but the I didnt know that I have to use the plastic upper perch of the ebay coilover that I wouldn't trust so I ended up not installing the extended top hat and just let the spring use the OEM top hat as the perch. this extended top hats will work perfectly on ground control type of coilover sleeves because they have a hi-grade aluminum upper perch. The bad thing is that the ebay seller that I got the extended top hat is not accepting returns for refund!!!! So if anyone is interested with it let me know.. I honestly bought it for 134+tax so if anyone interested PM me an offer and lets make a deal! Just please don't lowball since it is brand new. Then I found this guy on craigslist selling a complete AC system, never got a chance to install to his ef sedan until he sold the car. I got for 300 complete.

Got the allignment done today for the toe.. running with some negative camber. The ride is ok, not much bad roads that will make me bounce too much in my area. I will upgrade my suspension maybe in a few months to some godspeed RS but for the mean time, I'll rock this ebay coilover sleeves that I paid $47shipped for now I just really dont like driving high like an SUV with this wagon.

You mean the red disc of plastic? I ditched that thing. Sucks that you can't use your extended tophats. You bought 4 of them?

Yeah that's it.. mine came in black. 4 tophats. I mean I can still use it if I decide to install ground control coils but Im looking at godspeed rs right now.. I'l wait until I blow all my shocks

Got some fresh royal purple oil and transmission oil today.. found out I was leaking trany oil so I went back to econo lube to get it checked.. my axle seal is bad, so when they fill up the transmission, oil level went up and came out from the axle seal.. Can't drive it until I get it fix. sucks!
