Si cam in DX motor question.

I'm putting a CRX Si cam in my DX motor and was wondering something. I know for best results I should use a 96-00 civic cam gear. I have a 97 civic that is my wife's daily. What I was wondering is, instead of buying another 96-00 cam gear, could I use the cam gear off my wife's civic to set timing, then take it off and put the DX cam gear back on while leaving the timing set with what the Y8 cam gear gave me? It would essentially be the same thing, correct? If anyone sees any issues with this, feel free to post them up. Thanks.

also, if your CRX Si cam is from a 1988 CRX Si, you just use the PM3B cam gear. the 88 CRX Si D16A6 came indexed differently than 89-95 1.6L SOHC cams.
but if the cam came from a 89-91 D16A6, you need to use the Y series cam gear. or an adjustable...
i have a feeling you have ignition timing, and mechanical timing confused.
ignition timing is adjusting the distributor to fire in synch with what the ECU is expecting. 16 deg on all 88-95 D's
mechanical timing refers to the relationship between the cam and the crank, ensuring that the cam and crank are both at top dead center at the same time.
when using the 1.6L cam in a 1.5L that relationship between the cam and crank needs to be adjusted since D16A6 cams (other than the 88 bastard child) are indexed 4.5 degrees different to account for the 5mm deck height difference (the A6 block being taller than a B2 block)
