Rear door speakers.

i have just bought an 89 wago, and want to put a little system in it..

the car only came with the two front door speakers, so i want to put speakers in the rear doors. i was wondering if anyone has done/tried this and if so, some pointers.

also i have heard of people putting speakers in their rear decks, how hard are the rear decks to find?
thanks for the help!

i think you mean rear speaker pods. there really is no place to put them in the rear doors....if you do a bit of searching using that search function we have, you'll see a lot of different ideas on speakers for the rear.

Semi hard to find. Expect to pay $100 - $120 for a nice set.

People have put them in their rear doors before. But you are likely to run into clearance problems with rolling down your windows.

clsmooth did it way back in the day... but he's been off HCW for years, sadly.
  • Somebody put them in my rear doors at one point, and then kept them when they sold the car. So now I have big holes cut in my door panels. I might just put some speakers in there instead of buying new panels. They literally just cut holes for the speakers to fit into and then screwed the speakers into the hard plastic material of the door panel.

I have them in my rear door's, there's no clearance issue. I to purchased a wagon without this done to it.

Luckily I just purchased speaker pods :). So out they go and new door panels go in.

The gold rt I had, Had them in the rear doors, but the magnet was really small(cheap speakers) windows rolled down but sounded horrible. RTIAWD has it now maybe he can send ya a pic.

Another option other than speaker pods and the rear door is to fab something up yourself. I made these a few weeks ago for my wagon.

Not the best pictures but I think they sound pretty good. Get some MDF and carpet and go to town. The wires are already there just need to be extended to where you want to locate your speakers. There is a good write-up on finding the wires and installing speaker pods around here. If you just need to extend the wires like I did and not drill the holes for the pods you can get to the wires without removing the rear seats making it a little easier.

BMW 1.8 TI wagon door panel speakers and speakers should fit in our rear doors as well as the covers for them, this also applies to 1996-2002 Toyota 4runners speakers and speaker covers. I believe these are 4 inch or 4.5 inch sizes tho. Still playing with the idea of the BMW speakers cuz on the TI theres a tweeter on the door panel right next to the 4 incher too.
