Alternator makin noise help plz?

Hi guys, so my alternator is making noise when it starts but still charges just fine.
I'm just guessing the bearings in it just worn out, and I'm just wondering is there a way to stop it, and if i do have to change it, is there a easy way to get it out or do i have to take out the intake manifold. [d15b2 mpi]

  • Its just making a noise when it starts?

Sure it isnt the belt is loose/worn?

If it is the bearings it is super easy to remove, can do it with a couple spanners (remember to disconnect the battery first)
  • lol yeah i've seen my buddy shock himself numerous times lol

ill check if its loose or old, I do know its not loose cause my battery wont charge if it was so I'm thinking its just the Alternator.
if i do have to take it out do i have to remove the intake manifold to get to it? its on a d15b2 with a dpi. thx
  • It will charge if the belt is loose. There will be a small amount of slip when torque is applied (start up) causing it to squeel. After that there is minimal effort required to keep it spinning so the belt doesnt slip.

Its not the shocks you have to worry about, if you short it out then chances are you will weld your spanner/tool to something or loose a big chunk of it.

I know its not the belt its coming from the Alternator.

I just replaced the alternator on my 89 2wd wagon and found out you can remove driver side wheel, remove bolts from alt, remove lower alt. bracket from block, remove plastic fender well skirting, turn steering wheel all the way to the left and it leaves just enough room to remove alt.

Sounds like your alternator is starting to wear out, canasian.

The service manual says to remove it from under the car. First remove the alternator from the bracket, then remove the bracket from the engine block. Only then will you have enough clearance to drop the alternator down between the rear crossmember and the block. It is not at all difficult - takes me about 30 minutes start to finish. BOBBOY's method might be slightly more work???, but you don't have to be underneath the car.

actually, I just double checked the manual... it doesn't mention removing the bracket from the block... I think you only have to do that if you have a b-series engine swap.
