Better Gas Mileage on RT4wd

What are so suggestions for better gas mileage.
I used to own a 2001 civic which lasted me double the mileage!
What are some suggestions?
I think since its Multi point and not duel injected. It wastes more fuel??
You think its possible if i can get Individual Injection?
Sorry if I Didn't search it up, it's really hard searching for this subject.

It's not the injectors.Multi-point and/or Vtec actually gets better mpg.Main case for 4WD poor mileage is gearing. It's geared low for off road. The prob is I don't think anyone makes a higher final drive ratio (lower number) gears. You might check with the JDM 4WD Civic Sdn.Ways to improve 4Wd mileage is posted else where on this site. You're biggest improvements will come from:
1)Switching off the rear drive & changing the rear diff. fluid to the newer lower weight synthetic stuff.
    2)Putting dubs on.
    3)Swapping a Vtec head on.
    4)Civic 2WD tranny swap

    Wrd.

On top of that you may wanna consider
    1. Lighter wheels(this makes a big difference).
    2. Doing a full tune-up. Fresh cap/rotor/wires make a HUGE difference.
    3. Adjust timing..make sure its perfect.
    4. Tire pressure.
    5. Lower your car and get a good lip spoiler.
    6. Shed excess weight from the car.
    7. Read up on hypermiling.

The prob is I think dre1162 wants 2WD gas mileage(high 30's).If dre1162 did all JesseCRX's suggestions & my #1-3 suggestions the best dre will get is probably low 30's.Remember dre is starting from mid 20's.

The only way to get high 30's is with a DX 2WD tranny.
A HF tranny will bump it to mid to high 40's.link to more tranny info

best gas mileage would come from a light turbo right?
  • What kind of mileage are you getting now? I'd like to know what you think "better" is.
  • i noticed that under normal speed limit driving i get better gas mileage after putting on an aftermarket intake and exhaust. less restiction on both ends = better gas mileage so long as your not punching it all the time u will see an increase.

try not driving around with a full tank of gas all the time the extra weight kills the gas mileage with all the going and stopping . i usually drive with only a quarter tank in my car at any given time unless im doing a long highway drive which means that i gas up at the gas station closest to the on-ramp of the highway im going on.

these tips added to what was said above should work

back when my gold RT was boosted i would get 27-28 mpg and i had the hammer down quite a bit..... i did notice a big increase in fuel when i lowered it i swear it was like 2-3mpgs..... some HX wheels with tall skinny tires inflated to the max would be a good idea.
  • I could get 33 mpg on mine, but it has a Y8 head. That was driving really easy too @ 65 mph.

i get 30mpg on a daily basis with my RT. 250k miles....i dont take it easy either. i've noticed if you go any faster than 65 your mpg DROPS like a rock.

Might also try changing your throttle body to a smaller one, like a CRX Hf?

With the Rt, they are just heavy, so it is a losing battle... And, they have horrible aero-dynamics.

My 89 Dx hatch gets over 40 with the air on.. I am thinking about doing some aero mods too, just to see what it does..

Taller tires helps on the highway, but kills your around town & take offs..

Drive barefooted on your throttle.. This actually works and was a tip I got off of a hyper-mileage website... You realized that you are less heavy footed when you do so.
