stripping chrome rims?

i have the opportunity to buy a set of 17 inch Niche rims with tires. the only problem is that they are chrome and bubbling. my question to everyone is.....is there a way to strip the chrome and get it down to the bare aluminum. if so i would like to strip down the bubbling and peeling chrome and paint them. any input would be greatly appreciated. hope to hear from you all soon.

if you are planning on painted them, start sanding. refinishing wheels is a time consuming process.

IMO don't bother buying them. 17" tires cost to much to replace and are typically quite heavy. Our underpowered rides don't react well to added rotating mass. I would never buy anything bigger than 15".
  • have them powder coated

my shop did it for 200 they will sand blast all the chrome till the surface is mint and ready then the powder coat is as strong as any oem finish

if you go another route have them sand blasted thats the only decent way to remove chrome

that would be the 100% right way to go. no mess, no fuss.
