If it has spark and won't even try to run on starter fluid, then the next step is to check the timing. Could be as simple as someone installing plug wires incorrectly or as serious as a skipped timing belt.
  • Make sure all the plugs are correct, and tight.. Becareful with starting fluid cause you can mess up the MAP sensor. Make sure you have all your grounds.. One in the front on the valve cover, one on the tranny side, one on the thermostat housing.. Make sure there all clean and making good contact. Make sure the fuel filter is clean, Should be able to hear the fuel pump kick on might have to remove the fuel cap and listen. Might need a new pump (walbro 255 107 I think), Fuel filter (like 30) from parts stores. The pump might of seized or isnt working like it should be. Check the gap on the spark plugs, might have to test the coil on the distributor... just remember what makes a motor run is AIR, SPARK, and FUEL So check each one in accordance also you might need to do a compression check too you can rent them at autozone or places like that
  • ok so heres the deal went out today to check the grounds exct. and noticed my garage smelled of gas i looked under the car and the tank is leaking. . .ive been doing a lot of part research because aside from the tank the filler hose and straps need to be replaced as well i think im looking at a good 600 bucks to take care of the rear underneath before i try to get it started. But the car has only 68,000 original miles and overall is in awesome shape so im gonna replace everything down there and then troubleshoot the starting issue. i do have one question though when i was looking up a new tank at nappa they can get a 2 door one obviously not the one but also the other one is labeled as 4 door sedan they have no wagon, is there a difference? and also a question for future refrence i need to replace the whole exhaust any moderately priced systems you guys can suggest to me? Im looking for something legal lol
  • Well the tank im not to sure on, but exhaust most places require you to just have a muffler and CC everything pretty much you need to keep it carb legal. Just go to an exhaust shop and just have them make it custom, I dont think I have seen any that are for the wagons. You will be looking around 300 to 400 for a custom exhaust but Kteller.com (but it looks like they changed there website so I would contact them). They have cheap kits and maybe they can work something out for you but still plan on 3 to 400 to get your exhaust done. The nice part about doing it custom you get to pick your muffler (magnaflow sounds very very nice and deep) and make sure up put a glass pack on atleast 24" or larger if you can make it fit. 2 1/4 is the size exhaust I would go for, Good top end and low end and not to loud unless you plan to go turbo I would eather wait for 3 or do 2 1/2 with a test pipe down the road.
  • if she's an EW carby, check the fuel line, and the fuel filter hiding under your quarter panel, the filter housing is plastic, and i've had one break on my old '86 rex....just my $.02
