universal joint

well my car went into the shop today because i felt an awful vibration from the rear end which i believed to be the u-joint. so that is exactly what it ended be being. so my mechanic and i call the honda dealership and they to me that i cant just get the ujoint, that i have to replace the entire rear shaft. the car is a 1991 rt awd wagon 6 spd manual. please tell me this isnt the case. if anyone knows a company where i can get it from please let me know asap. and if so could you supply me with the name of the company, the part #, and the price. I hope to hear back from some of you really soon!

    :cry: Yes it's replaced as a unit.SORRY Dude.

    Cheapest=Junkyard or used.
    Most $$$=Honda Dealer :cry:
  • thanks for the reply siwagon. thats what i was afraid of. i have a parts wagon, but it has high miles just like mine, so i figured man i better just put new u joints. now looks like i might try the one in my parts car, hopefully it is in decent shape. how ridiculous of honda to do this, i mean a u joint is a common thing that goes wrong on any vehicle, you shouldn't have to replace an entire shaft. :twisted: thanks for the input though, its greatly appreciated!

    Dont feel alone mine has the same vibration. Im a dealer tech and I too found it rather shocking that the u joints arent sold separately. The car is a beater and I might try some rather unorthodox methods of getting rid of the vibration. Ill let you know how it goes.
