oil pan removal in my RT t-case is in the way

well im changing my clutch as we speak and as i was under it i noticed that the t-case is in the way of the oil pan. the only reason this concerns me is that in a few weeks i will be putting the turbo on my car and i planned on removing the oil pan to tap for an oil return line and of course change my pan gasket as well. i noticed a few 14mm bolts holding the t-case to the tranny i took a few off and thought to myself that i should prolly ask before i tottaly unbolt it just in case. i guess what im trying to ask is can i simply un-bolt it and slide it out? if so i see no way that im gunna be able to take my pan off if i put my tranny back on. thanx

heres the pic of my tranny

hehe didn't see this... From memory you should be able to remove the oil pan with the tranny on there without pulling the tranny apart but i can't be 100% sure, i'll have a look at mine in a few hours when i get home as i'm at tech right now.
  • i just had my oil pan replaced on my 91 rtawd, they had to drain the tranny, remove the clutch plate housing cover, and remove part of the output shaft. so needless to say lots of labor and $, but its a wagon, so its worth it :D

ya im prolly just gunna pull the pan tomarrow then and go find (or make) a 1/2 female bung weld it on and throw a plug in it till i get the turbo hooked up cuz i will hatemyself when i try to tap it in a few weeks with all that shit in the way.

i ran into a problem as well. some of u might remember my thread about the problem i had selecting a clutch well i got my flywheel turned and as soon as i put the presure plate on i knew something was up. the reason they offer 2 different clutches for my 88 wagon is cuz if u use my stock flywheel u can run the 200mm clutch kit but if u have a 212mm flywheel from 89 or 90-up d-series u can run the larger clutch. no worries i got a flywheel from a 99EX for FREE and it doesnt cost me a dime to turn a flywheel so all i lost was time. if anyone wants i have a newly surfaced 200mm flywheel that u can have for FREE all u have to pay for is shipping. and i double checked the disc itself the alignment toll slides into the old disk so i know the new disk will fit my tranny. man this was hell.
  • When I did the electric conversion, I had to take off the transfer case to get the motor adaptor on there. I was afraid there would be spring-loaded parts that scattered everywhere, but it's fine to take it off.

In case the delay had prevented you from getting to it yet. It's safe.

my secret degreaser is castrol super clean i love it just be careful its a little tuff on anything not metal as in it will dry out plastics and stain paint with a white film so use it wisely.

and since it was up in the air i got the 10an male bung on its way so i can pull the pan weld it on and throw it all back together. purchased my new mani and turbo last night as soon as they show up ill post some pix of it but i think ive got this clutch and oil pan prob all figured out

I tapped my oil pan for my turbo project while it was still on the car.
FYI, if the transfer case gears are not put back properly & checked for lash ect. then it will start eating itself. In the Helms manual its states you are supposed to rotate the assembly once reinstalled & use prussian blue to check the gear contact, Honda has part numbers available for different thickness shims to correct the differences involved in the re-installation porcess. Please be careful as the transfer case is a vital component in the rt system.
    Helms is a lifesaver!

never had to take off the the t-case. when i had the tranny out i dropped the pan welded a male 10an bung on the front of the pan got a new gasket some silicone and put it all back together no leaks and now the pan is all ready. infact the rest of mt kit should be showing up any day now and today i fisnished up the install of the wideband, boost guage, and maybe the most important thing u can get for your car a radar detector.
  • good advice akira!

@turbo_teg: when you cleaned the tranny, what did you use to prevent water from getting into the transmission case where the axles go?
  • turbo_tegturbo_teg Council Member
    rags
  • axle cups from old axles work GREAT!
