replacement tail light gaskets

For those of you who replaced your dried out tail light gaskets with "ye ole mouse pad" trick, did this work? My tail lights are starting to take in water so I'll be doing this quick. :(

    I used the mouse pad. It works so far.

    can someone fill me in, in more detail on this, do you cut the mouse pad to match the size of the old gasket? any input would be greatly appreciated. i see that they have new gaskets on majestic honda, but does this method work better?

    In a nutshell, yes. Cut the mouse pad to size, that's it. Not sure if it's better, but it sure is cheap!
