Transmission issues

I've got big problems !!!
My mechanic told me that the "doo-hickey" on my transmission where the right axle shaft connects is broken...
most of the tranny fluid is gone...
and there's even a chunk of the connector that has apparently fallen in the tranny.
He highly recommends I bring it to a transmission shop.
Man, I can just hear my wallet whimper...

or did the diff pin wear thru????
More details (pics also!) help.
Well, considering I drove it a couple time before I noticed the noise and then drove it to Canadian Tire for a check-up... I sure hope nothing fell in...
I'll know more when I pick up the car tonite.
If the "diff pin" wore through, what does that mean in terms of repairs?
I'll try to crawl under the car tonite and take a few pics...
so is this still true?
Now more than ever!!
Quarters came through with a tranny so the wagon will live on!!
Trans seal blowin out and piece of trans stuck there. recommend trans shop.
That's it, that's all...
The mechanic did tell me the car was okay to drive to the nearest trans shop but I drove it home instead, around 40 km/h all the way.
Quarters will hook me up with a tranny, as well as some other parts, and I will do the repairs in spring... My parents are snowbirds (i.e. they spend the winter in the US) and will let me use their van this winter. I've already switched the insurance to storage only and I will be mothballing the wagon this weekend.
Any tips on what I should do? I plan on filling the gas tank and adding fuel stabilizer, removing the battery and plugging the muffler to keep the critters out. I'm also going to buy a tarp and cover the car completely. Anything else?
I'm glad I was able to use the wagon for my 3,000 kms road trip in August. I won't feel so bad not driving it this winter.
Have no fear, I will continue to visit the Forum on a regular basis, just to stay in the groove... I'm still a wagon owner after all, even though I can't drive it. LOL
Here is what I was able to get... I presume they popped out the axle shaft to make their diagnosis... but you can clearly see trans fluid has leaked out.
How about putting the car on blocks? That way I can leave it in neutral and roll the wheels by hand??
Sitting cars on blocks warps chassis if over longer periods of time. It may not be so obvious in cars with full chassis rails but Honda's flex.
Thx for the info... I will therefore leave the car on the ground and roll it back and forth once a month.
that tranny looks horrible. good to know that you have another lined up, but until Spring? can you really wait that long? :P good luck man!
dont leave the community, stay and chat
hahaha.
frank..what a character you are!
Well, the blown open tranny (first set of pics) isn't mine... mine is the second set of pics.
As far as waiting until Spring is concerned, I'm dependent on Quarters and his technical knowledge. He will let me know when he has time since he is currently doing some heavy-duty work on his own wagon.
I intend to keep an eye on the community and give input where I can.

Now there's an idea...
Hmmmm, I'll have to bounce that one off Quarters.
The wagon went to the local garage this morning (June 13) and my mechanic installed:
1. a working starter...
2. the Exedy clutch I ordered online for $95 US and...
3. the tranny Quarters sold me last Autmn
My mechanic has 2 issues with this tranny.
1. one of the bolt holes where the rear tranny mount bolts to the tranny is stripped so there are only 2 bolts holding the tranny there and...
2. the front tranny mount bushing is toast... and he's trying to find another one...
The right front axle shaft was fine but the bearings in the tranny housing where this axle shaft attaches are toast. He actually pulled out metal filling from there to show me. I'm still keeping this tranny as I could potentially have that section rebuilt and have a spare tranny on hand.
So... if all goes well I should have the car back on the road for the weekend... just in time for Father's Day !!!
In case my mechanic is having trouble locating a front tranny mount for a 1990 5spd wagon, anyone have any hints where to look?
Ya right !!
The closest appropriate tranny mount is in B.C. and will be here Monday!!
Oh well, I haven't driven the car since October '06 so I can hang on a little while longer... but not that much longer.
The Honda is in the driveway and it RUNS !!!
I got it back form the shop this afternoon. The new clutch is in and the tranny I bought from Quarters is installed and works great!!
I kept the original tranny and will look into getting the damaged section rebuilt, depending on price.
I will post a pic of the damage... it mostly looks like bearings.
I'm so PSYCHED to be driving my Honda wagon again !!!
As promised...
Nice metal shavings hey? There were a bunch more when I saw the tranny removed the first time.
The damage looks pretty localized so I'm going to see about a rebuild so I have a spare tranny on hand.
And, in closing, here is how the car looked when I took it out for a test spin.
