4wd not working help!

I just bought a 87 rt4wd and i took it out tonight and decided to try and climb a grass hill and quickly relised that the 4wd wasn't working.. Whats the most common thing to go wrong with this system im new to the whole wagon thing. It doesnt make any noise or anything just isnt ingaging.

    Those are both about towing that doesnt help me.

    I think what he is getting at is check on your transmission and make sure that that lever is engaged. With it disengaged you won't have 4wd just power to the front wheels.

    I just jacked the front of the car up and put it in gear, the front half of the driveshaft spins but the 4wd doesnt even try to engage... so im guessing i need a new coupler? does anyone know where i can get one? for some reason this site wont let me look at the market place.

    If the viscous coupler is indeed bad, you have a problem. They are not available from Honda and, according to Honda, are not repairable. Your best bet is to find one from a junk yard or from someone parting out a car. Neither prospect is very promising, these vehicles are not all that common. Wish I had better news.
