Anyone running a Y8 Intake Manifold SUCCESSFULLY on D16A6?

I dont want to do a Mini Me swap. I have a head and just dont want to go through all of the trouble...plus, my A6 is a champ. not one problem at all. Its my ol' trusty and just wanna spiff it up.

my question is: has anyone successfully installed a Y8 IM on the stock A6 head and have no problems? Im keeping my car OBD0, and just wanting to install the manifold, fuel rail and throttle body from a Y8 for a bit more power. If you have, please let me know what needs to be done for it to work correctly. And what needs to be capped off and what lines go where.

Much thanks!

It works, you need the right y8 manifold though, one kind works without major mods.
  • 5 speed manual intake manifold is what you need. The automatic one doesn't have the attachment for the IACV on the back. The "bumps" are there in the casting, but the holes aren't drilled or opened up. If you're comfortable doing the drilling and taping some threaded holes, then the auto one can work for you too.

Forgot to add the one that has the extra vacuum ports across the runners is useless!

Please explain and elaborate for those of us on the short bus.

Are you refering to a third type of manifold? Or a production run of both auto and manual manifolds? Or produced certain years?

An interesting thread... thanks for the info so far :D

    Bump for more info!

Need to know what else I'm in for before I pull the mani.

I have a manual IM as it is the two wire..

I have a kind of Y8 intake manifold that has a vacuum port on each runner right where it bolts to the head. In order to use that you have to use the matching style head. I need to get you a picture though
  • In order to use that you have to use the matching style head.

Not necessarily. You could simply plug the ports where they meet the head.

I was messing around with one of them and it wont seal right, not without some work. I feel it's better to just avoid them and get the intake without them. I think it's the air injection ports I'm talking about(labeled cold start). I'm really not wanting to seem like a parrot but I really want to make sure were thinking about the same thing! :D

  • Wow. Pictures and words combined in a concise, easy to understand manner. Wish we had more of these shots for other topics.

Interesting thread, and happy to say, I think I even understand. Thanks!
  • Do it, and tell us how you like it.

    Please and thank you!

I installed the y8 manifold on my old wagon, ran good but had a funky idle during the summer, weird shit i could never figure it out
  • I am using a Y7 manifold on my D16Z6 swap and using all the stock air box crap lol

    What throttle body? :?:
  • Y7 with with a braket to bolt the the air box on top and i started building a addapter cause i got three wire idle air control and going to a two wire

    Why not just go y8?
  • MPI with the dual point look thats all I got two Y8 manifolds just everyone is doing it so why not Y7

Poor flow, Y8 manifold on my z6 radically change my power band!

out of all the mannys (y8 z6 a6) the y8 makes the most power.as for y8 ones with the air holes.just seal them up with some JB weld.dont forget the one on the flange either.

I want to bring this back,

I have a y8 IM on my d16a6. When I put it on, i didn't know about ones with vacuum holes. If you were to install it without plugging the holes, what would happen?

EDIT: Made a call and was told it's from 98 without EGR ports, all is good. But yes, i've done it successfully as well.
