Head Gasket Modifications

So, I got a blown head gasket in my 1988 rt4wd wagon and this is the first time I have cracked into a honda head. I am getting the head machined and resurfaced along with all the valves, replacing all gaskets, timing belt, and the water pump while I am down there. I was hoping that all you experienced people could give me some good advice on: any modifications to the head by machine shop (i.e. increase compression specs)?, any other components that should be replaced or check while I am down?, if there are any tricks that make the job easier or problems to look out for?, any thing to do with fuel injectors?, types and brands of parts to use in this rebuild (aftermarket or substitute) and anything else that you experts can think of? I want to do this right so that the engine is as strong as I can make it. I remember seeing a thread about using a different head gasket then the crap factory head gasket, or even off another make and model, any names or brands would be very helpful. I just want as much information about this project from the people that know, and that seems to be the folks on this site.
Thanks, I appreciate any help I can get.

    -hondata intake manifold gasket
-shaving the head will increase compression anyway which is good
    -SOHC ZC cam
    -uprated valves and springs
    -metal headgasket
-injectors will be fine maybe just get them sonic cleaned and new seals
    -larger fuel rail?

Most importantly... make sure you torque everything to spec!

All the above would make a nice lil motor. Maybe the others will have some suggestions.

    thanks for the suggestions
  • if you really want to make power use a 96 newer dx head the combustion chmber is alot better and will also raise compression.. remember when buying parts... imitation is the biggest form of flatery, but the is no room for it on your honda... use only OEM Honda parts if possible
