Transmission seems to want to fall out of the car

ok so i need help bad like now. my wagon is my daily and today for some damn reason has been horrible. my damn trans will be in gear and then it will make a chattering sound and seem like it wants to fall out of the car. what would cause this it only does it once stopped and not all the time. it seems like the shifter isnt engaging all the was so when i turn the car off then back on again its fine.

what would cause this?

edit oh yeah car was auto but we changed everything to manual.
trans is a 89 dx

    Fall out of the car? How do you mean?

    well not fall out literally but it will be in gear and then when i slow down it seems to want to stall and shakes like hell then i push the clutch pedal and its fine but if i do it fast and its in neutral it will stall.

    hows the clutch? is it worn down?

    thats what im thinking too. i asked a friend and he said it sounded like the clutch was going. i am just waiting on my 212mm fly wheel to get here so i can put on this new clutch
