Exhaust leaking into cabin

ok, so i thought i fixed my exhaust leaking into my cabin thru the rear hatch. That didn't work. Now after taking a reclining my seat to take a nap, I noticed black exhaust dust cat the edges where the roof liner meets the door trim. How and where in the hell is it leaking in from? I've sealed the gaping holes in my rear quarters and the door seals seem ok. Any suggestions? Thanks yet again!

  • to realy fix the problem check where it leaks from the exhaust system/ pipe. must have holes in pipe or loose flange bolts.or rusted out muffler!
thats whats what i would do anyway..goodluck
  • I can't imagine it would leak in the back unless you are idling or driving in reverse for long periods of time. My first check would be to drop my exhaust from the cat back and check for holes.
  • I checked the exhaust before and found no leaks. I've got a hollowed out cat though. I also found black exhaust soot on the rear plastic that surrounds the rear side windows. Doesn't help that I have rust holes I guess. I'll check the exhaust again.
  • You would need a serious leak, and a very rich running engine to accumulate dust like that. Clean your car and see how long it takes to build up.
  • I will be cleaning the interior tomorrow. I also forgot to mention I am burning oil that leaves black soot on my hatch.
  • I'm working with a similar problem. I think I got it fixed yesterday by adjusting the rear hatch "hook" so that the hatch fits really snug.
Still need to get up underneath the car to make sure everything's tight on the exhaust system.
  • Just look for the area where it is black and get a welder and go to town.....

Or i have a full exhaust that is stock for sale....
