Violent vibration after 10mph

I just got my 91 RTAWD wagon running correctly last night. but when I took it for a test drive I felt and heard a very violent vibration right in the middle of the car, where the drive shaft is. Anyone know what it could be.... I think it might be the U-Joint.

I'm sure mnhondas has an intelligent bunch that could help you...

    Jk

I'd guess U-joints, bushings, viscous coupler acting up.
  • Replace the u joint before your driveshaft gets destroyed and you need a new one of those too!

Shift to 2WD mode to see if vib goes away.Go under the wgn to look for loose u-joints,shot rubber bushings, etc.
  • sorry for getting back so late guys... So tonight I got the car in the air and found what is shaking so badly but I dont know what its called. 612.jpg

The part that is boxed in with red
  • It's your "viscous coupler". Use that as your search term and you should find plenty of info. Suffice to say, however, (I think) they have no repairable internal components - so you'll need to replace it if you want 4WD, but the car should drive without it. Also consider the possibilities it is either your Universal Joint or a bearing on the driveshaft that has gone bad and is causing your bad vibes.

Interested to see a resolution to this. Good Luck! :D
  • Welll I just moved the plate on my tranny from awd to fwd and found out that when you do this the driveshaft still spins it just doesnt send power to the rear differential... and I don not have the fondest idea on how to remove the drive shaft. awesome!
