Head gasket and bolts any helpful hint !

Looking for helpful hints on doing installing the freshly machined head back onto my 1.6 rt4wd engine.
If anyone ran into any problems with doing this. Also what gaskets and new head bolts that you used ?
thanks let me know.

  • I would get an OEM Honda gasket and some ARP headbolts since they aren't really that much. I always spray my headgaskets down with the copper gasket spray juts for a little extra insurance.
  • Makes sure you use the headgasket that is metal. I believe the D16A6 gaskets were like a graphite material. The metal ones are better. Not sure which ones they were though. D16Y8 perhaps. Someone else knows the answer for sure. I also went with ARP headstuds.
  • I think the D16a6 OEM gasket part number has been replaced by the D16y8 number but yeah what The_Head said, the metal head gasket form the D16Y8 or D16Z6.
  • If its a high mileage motor, I'd replace the valve stem seals as well. You've already got the head off and they're not that expensive.

and another vote for z6 gasket with ARP studs. :D

good info here, had a few questions, where can i get the arp headstuds, does any one reuse the stocks?

when i go to the Honda dealer i just as for the d16z6 head gasket? all the coolant holes match up, no modifications correct?

    thanks for the help!!!

  • Never re-use oem Honda headbolts. The way the threads lock is by stretching. Once they're stretched when installed, they never correctly lock down again. I'd check Ebay for the ARP's. I come across great deals on there all the time for them.
